One of the current trends I’ve been eyeing is the vest trend, especially the long line styles. As always with trends, I consider if it fits my personal style and whether it has longevity. I don’t want to invest in an item of clothing that I’ll only wear one season. Although a little modern, the vest trend feels a bit classic, too, and I think it will last for a few years. I purchased this vest from Reformation recently and in this post, I’m stying it five ways. Some of these looks are meant for summer and warm temperatures while some are more transitional outfits that you can wear into fall. I love how versatile a vest is as you can wear it buttoned or unbuttoned and layered with tanks or long sleeves. It can be styled for date night, casual weekends, or even for work.
Reformation Casey Vest
This exact vest I’m styling in these photos is the Reformation Casey Vest (my first Reformation purchase and definitely not my last!) The quality is excellent, and the fit is perfect. It does, however, have a low cut neckline which makes a regular bra out of the question. It’s also a bit revealing which is cute for date night but possibly not the vibe you’re going for on a regular old Tuesday. You can layer this vest with a fitted tank to make it more everyday friendly. I’ve also linked options with higher necklines below! It also comes in black and green.

How To Style A Long Vest
1. With A Slip Skirt & Minimal Sandals

This is the minimalist outfit of my dreams. It is very streamlined and surprisingly comfortable. My exact slip skirt is the Glide Skirt from Darling. It has an elastic waist and easy fit. I should wear it more often! You can use code ASHLEYR for 15% off. I’ve also linked two more options from more well known brands below. To keep the look minimalist, I stuck with a simple thong sandal in a beige color. These have been my most worn summer shoe for 2024.

2. With Straight Jeans & Heels

This is the date night look I envisioned when I purchased this vest. I love a blazer for date night, and this vest gives a similar vibe without the sleeves. I paired it with one of my favorite pairs of straight leg jeans. A wide leg pair of jeans would also work nicely with this outfit, but I would avoid any jeans with a tighter fit as the vest is already slim fitting. These heeled sandals in a fun snakeskin print have a low block heel for more comfort for a night on your feet.

3. With A Tank, Denim Shorts, & Flats

For an everyday look, pair your vest with a tank and denim shorts. The layering of the vest really ups the cool factor of a simple summer outfit. My cropped tank in these photos is the Lily Knit Tank from a small brand called Parallel 51. I also own it in brown! Use code ASHROHR15 for 15% off. I’ve also linked two other black tank tops below that I own and love.
These denim shorts are my personal favorite. They have a high waist and a-line cut for a loose fit on the thighs. Any pair of flats or sandals would work nicely with this outfit (even sneakers!) but I went with my current favorite style, the Mary Jane ballet flats. This pair is under $100 and comes in tons of color options.

4. With A Blouse, Black Pants, & Ankle Boots

For versatility sake, I set out to style this vest for an officewear look. It ended up being one of my favorites of the bunch! I love the way this vest looks styled with a feminine blouse. My exact blouse is old from Sézane, but the brand always has cute white blouses to shop. I’ve linked a few of my current favorites below. For bottoms, I grabbed these comfy black pants from Everlane that have an elastic waist. I can’t recommend them enough for those of you who need to dress business casual for work. Lastly, I added a pair of ankle boots and matching crossbody bag.

5. With A Button Down, Baggy Jeans, & Minimal Sandals

This look is a little out of my comfort zone, but I felt really cool wearing it! I paired a white button down with a pair of loose jeans and minimal sandals. You could opt for a classic pair of straight leg jeans instead of a baggy pair like this if you prefer. And tucking in the shirt would also make this look a little more classic as well. Try it both ways and see how you feel!
