When I was 22 and fresh out of college, I wore business casual at my corporate job. It was all fitted button downs in various colors, boot cut pants, and heeled pumps. This was 15 years ago, and from what I can gauge from social media and current articles, the idea of business casual dress has changed a lot since then. It feels more fresh, modern, and chic, or at the least more open to style and trends. If you need some inspiration for shaking up your business casual wardrobe, I put together a week’s worth of modern business casual outfits for 2024.
MODERN BUSINESS CASUAL OUTFITS FOR 2024

Why It Works: The tapered pants balance the oversized button down and sweater. I prefer to pair loafers with cropped pants as opposed to full length as I like a little ankle to show. Consider wearing the button down untucked here since the pants are slim fitting, and it makes the look more modern and less corporate. I added a sweater that you can wear over your shoulders or layer on top of your button down.

Why It Works: For a more feminine take on office wear, try pairing a flowy blouse with a structured pant. I would definitely tuck your blouse into your pants for this outfit. I chose to make this a ‘sandwich look’ by matching the top and the shoes. These kitten heels are really comfortable (I own them in the olive color!) The silver chunky hoops and woven bag add texture and interest.

Why It Works: If you’re wondering how to style a lady jacket for work, here’s an idea. I love this stripe option – so chic! I also opted for a classic slim sneaker instead of a dressier shoe since I think it looks more fresh and unexpected this way, but you could wear a pointed toe flat or heel with this as well.

Why It Works: A comfortable tapered pant pairs well with a relaxed fit blazer. I opted for a silk cami over a tee which I think elevates the look since these pants read more casual. I added some pointed toe flats to elongate the legs, and a chic black bag and gold jewelry.

Why It Works: Green pants are really on trend right now, and I prefer this style with sailor pockets over a green cargo pant that you may have seen on other fashion girlies. I love the combination of a masculine button down with feminine ballet flats, but you could wear any flats with this look.

Why It Works: A slim fitting top balances out the wide leg of the pants. Since these pants are full length, I would opt for a pointed or square toe shoe so my feet don’t get lost. I would also tuck this shirt into the pants to style this look, and possibly add a belt as well.

Why It Works: For this look, I chose this new trendy curve style of denim, but you could wear straight leg black jeans or black pants. I love the mix of black and olive green. For this look, I would tuck my tee into my jeans and scrunch the sleeves of my blazer to style it. A sleek low bun would go perfectly with this outfit.
