One of my goals with Stitch & Salt has been to show you how to create a versatile wardrobe that fits your lifestyle. In this post, I’m sharing a new minimal fall capsule wardrobe. I’m using twelve pieces (plus three bags) to create twenty-two different outfits.
The exercise of creating capsule wardrobes has been such an enlightening experience for me because it forced me to select basic pieces that can be mixed and matched to create several different outfits. I have learned so much about my personal style and what works for me as I’ve been creating these. In my 20s, I had a closet full of clothes and absolutely nothing to wear. It was not fun getting dressed, and I barely wore anything more than a couple times besides my five work shirts that I rotated through weekly. Times have changed!
Now…some capsule wardrobes are SO basic, they can be quite boring if I’m being perfectly honest. My goal with this capsule wardrobe was to add in a few trendy pieces and play with texture and new silhouettes to make this capsule more exciting and the outfits more interesting. Capsule wardrobes don’t have to be boring!
Minimal Fall Capsule Wardrobe
THE PIECES
Poppy Barley Novel Cardigan in Militaire // A cardigan with this fit is super versatile because it can be worn buttoned on it’s own or unbuttoned and layered over tees or turtlenecks. I took my true size XS, but you could size up for a more slouchy fit. *pr product
Everlane Supima Micro-Rib Long-Sleeve Scoop Neck Tee // I just recently purchased this tee in black and white to layer under things this winter. I like the scoop neck style so I don’t feel quite so ‘buttoned up.’
Sézane Max Shirt // This is an oversized white button down that looks good untucked or tucked. I used to be obsessed with tucking in everything, and this shirt was the gateway for exploring untucking and a more loose silhouette. This is the Casual White color. I sized down to the XXS.
Everlane Tencel Oversized Blazer // This blazer is such good quality. It has an oversized fit without being too boxy. I took my true size.
Banana Republic Factory Shacket // An affordable and cool layering option for winter. I took the XSP.
Banana Republic Factory Forever Sweater // This medium weight striped sweater is so comfy with a relaxed fit. It works well on it’s own or layered under things.
Madewell Perfect Vintage Straight Jeans // This exact pair is no longer in stock, but here is a similar style in the same wash that I have. These fit like a slim fitting straight jean with a longer inseam. I usually take my smaller size in Madewell denim, but you could size up for a baggier fit.
Everlane Way High Sailor Jean // These are the perfect wide leg jeans for petites! I took my smaller size and the longer inseam. If you’re taller than 5’4″ I would recommend this pair instead. I’ve been wearing these cuffed a lot, too for a more trendy look.
Agolde Riley Straight Crop Jean // A classic pair of slim fitting light wash straight jeans. I recommend taking your smaller size or sizing down as the waist tends to relax with wear.
Everlane Glove Boot // These boots are a ‘sock bootie’ style that hugs the ankles. These are so versatile and fit under all my straight leg jeans really well. These fit true to size.
Madewell Darcy Ankle Boot // These boots aren’t exactly ‘minimal’ but I just love the interest they add to my simple outfits. I’m finding them surprisingly versatile! They fit true to size.
Frēda Salvador Ballet Flat // These woven ballet flats are perfect for adding texture to your outfits. They fit true to size. Use code STITCHANDSALT15 for 15% off your first purchase.
Bags // Abby Alley Sling Bag in Mocha / ABLE Berkeley Belt Bag (currently sold out; similar) // Madewell Essential Mini Bucket Tote in Burnt Olive
