A few weeks ago, I shared my winter capsule wardrobe which I’m currently wearing this season. For this post, I’ve created a mini winter capsule wardrobe using pieces from my full capsule. I’ve chosen ten of the more versatile items to mix and match and show how a capsule wardrobe can be used to create tons of different outfits.
I used my accessories capsule to style each outfit. Accessories can really alter the vibe of a look so use them well! I love adding a beanie, a pair of simple gold hoops, a bag in a similar tone, and some cool sunglasses. Below I’ve gone over each item and why I’ve included it in my mini capsule wardrobe. Your most versatile pieces may be different than mine depending on your lifestyle and climate.

This ribbed turtleneck is nice for wearing on its own or layering under blazers and cardigans for more warmth. This one is ribbed and made from super soft Pima cotton. It has a ribbed texture and fits tight to the body. It’s comes in several neutral colorways, too. Here is a more affordable option.

A hoodie is such a cool casual option for your winter wardrobe. You can even layer a long sleeved base layer underneath if you live somewhere really cold. I like pairing my hoodie with more elevated pieces like my oversized coat. This one is from H&M and is super affordable.

I wear my black denim fall, winter, and spring. I like that it adds a little edge to my outfits. This pair is the Madewell Perfect Vintage Jean which is similar to a skinny jean, but has a straight leg from the knee to the ankle. I size down in this style. If you go into the office for work, you could substitute these jeans with a pair of black pants. I like this pair from Everlane.

Straight leg denim is easy to pair with boots which is why I recommend having a pair for winter and fall. The hem of a straight leg jean usually doesn’t bunch up around the top of the boot. This pair is really good quality organic cotton denim from Agolde. This wash runs big; I recommend sizing down one. For a similar but more affordable option, try the Everlane Way High Jean.

A pair of off white or ecru denim is nice for making either high contrast outfits when paired with black or tonal outfits when paired with shades of beige and tan. This pair is a straight leg version from Madewell. I ordered 2 sizes down.

If you live in a colder climate, you’ll definitely want a puffer coat to get you through those cold winter days. I’m obsessed with this one. It’s really warm and also comes in black and green if that’s more your style. I have my true size.

My exact coat that I own is sold out from H&M, but I linked a similar option above. I LOVE the oversized fit. It’s so chic. I like that it pairs well with casual and dressy pieces. If you live somewhere warmer, you could swap this for a trench coat style.

A chelsea boot in a waterproof material is a good winter shoe that looks cool but is also functional. I own these boots that are sold out, but the pair pictured here is fully stocked. I like that this pair has a lug sole and also a higher shaft which is more trendy and also covers your ankles better. This pair comes in a variety of colors, too.

Another pair of versatile boots is a brown bootie which you can style lots of ways. I like a heeled version, but you can look for a flat pair if you prefer. When shopping for booties, choose a pair that has a higher shaft that will fit under your jeans.
