Although we are still in the dog days of summer (and I’m thoroughly enjoying every minute of it) my mind often wanders to dreams of fall, my absolute favorite season. Not only do fall activities top my list of favorite pastimes, I also find fall dressing to be the most enjoyable of all seasons. The minimalism the hot summer weather necessitates shifts to the layered looks of fall. Sweaters make their triumphant comeback, and, of course, my beloved jeans are back on the table. In this post, I’m revealing my 2024 fall wardrobe wishlist. As always, it’s a good mix of classic items I’ve been coveting and some trendy items I’m considering for my fall wardrobe.
One of my best tips for curating your perfect wardrobe for any season is to create a wishlist. Keeping a list of items you need will significantly reduce impulse purchases (I speak from experience here) and will allow you to build a functional wardrobe that works best for your lifestyle.
How To Create A Fall Wardrobe Wishlist
1. Seek Out Fall Outfit Inspiration
My first step in creating a fall wishlist is to seek out fall outfit inspiration usually on Pinterest. I pin fall outfits that fit my personal style and identify items my wardrobe may be missing. I typically shy away from seasonal trends and instead stick to classic styles that I know will last for several years. However, I do pick and choose two to three trends that align with my style, and that I foresee lasting for several seasons. I stay away from micro trends that you will probably only spot during fashion week or on social media influencers.

2. Assess Your Current Closet
If you’re like me, it’s probably been some time since you’ve laid eyes on your cool weather clothing. You may have forgotten about pieces hidden in the back of your closet or tucked away in storage. The last thing you want to do is purchase something new only to find you already own a similar item.
At this juncture, I also assess my basics for stains and wear. I usually find that at least one or two of these items need replacing. For example, I typically need to replace my white t-shirts annually.
Also, if you’ve had any significant body changes within the past year, you’ll also want to try on your fall clothing to determine whether those items still fit properly. Perhaps you’ve had a baby recently? Changes in body shape after pregnancy are normal and expected. Instead of trying to squeeze into clothes that don’t fit, tuck those items away till later, and buy at least a few new pieces that will fit you right now. I promise it will make all the difference in your daily mindset and confidence to have clothes that fit well.
3. Make Your Fall Wish List
I always start my fall wish list with the basics. Here is a list of fall wardrobe essentials every woman should own. These will be the foundation of your wardrobe and will allow you to build a variety of fall outfits with ease.
- Basic Tees In Neutral Colors
- Black Blazer
- Silk Camisole
- Crewneck Sweater
- Straight Leg Jeans
- Tailored Trousers
- Fall Dress
- Ankle Boots
- Ballet Flats
- Loafers
This is the absolute minimum I recommend having in your fall closet. For these pieces, it’s best to buy the best quality you can afford. Since these items are timeless styles you can wear for years and years, you are going to want them to last. From there, add in other items you may be missing or trendy pieces that fit your personal style.
My 2024 Fall Wishlist
Without further ado, here are the items I’m considering adding to my fall 2024 wardrobe. I always spend quite a bit of time (most definitely more than the average person!) curating this list. I plan to invest in some good quality pieces this year always striving for the perfect fit.
A Quality Black Blazer
Although I own a couple black blazers, none are of great quality and fit. Year after year, this is always one of my most worn items in fall and winter so I’m willing to invest. I’m looking for a double breasted black blazer with a relaxed fit (not too slim and not too boxy) that is made with quality material.
SHOP BLACK BLAZERS
Leopard Print Blouse
One of three trendy items you’ll find on this list, leopard print is making a big comeback for fall. Long considered a neutral and a favorite print of Parisians, leopard print has always been stylish, but this year it’s at the top of the trend list. I’m very picky about which trends I choose to participate in. However, I believe this one has staying power and also aligns with my personal style. I’ll be sharing more ways to wear this trend as fall gets closer. Leopard print is showing up in all kinds of styles from pants to shoes, but I’m planning to purchase a leopard print blouse. I’ll most likely select one from my favorite French brand Sézane who has a small selection of classy leopard print pieces that will slide nicely into my wardrobe.

Suede Ankle Boots
Ankle boots are by far my favorite fall and winter footwear. I have a small collection in a few colors, but none in a beautiful and polished suede material. I love the soft and cozy texture suede adds to my fall outfits. I’m shopping for suede ankle boots in a versatile colorway, possibly taupe or camel. When shopping for ankle boots, my number one tip is to look for a pair with a tall and tight shaft that will tuck nicely under straight leg jeans with no ankle showing.
SHOP SUEDE ANKLE BOOTS
Wool Blazer
I’m really looking to invest in classic pieces for fall this year, hence the addition of another blazer to my fall wishlist. Wool blazers are so versatile. When the weather begins to cool in late October, they can act as a light jacket and then layered under coats in winter. Paired with a silk camisole or white t-shirt, a wool blazer will be a wardrobe workhorse. I recommend seeking out one from a trusted brand as fit and quality are very important when purchasing blazers. I’m shopping for a wool blazer in shades of brown or taupe possibly in a herringbone or plaid pattern.
SHOP WOOL BLAZERS
Clyde Trench Coat
For every other item on my wishlist, I have not indicated a specific brand, but for this trench coat, I have one in mind. I already own the classic fitting Sézane Scott Trench Coat which I love and wear all fall and spring, but I’ve also had my eye on this newly released trench coat style from Sézane. Compared to the Scott Trench Coat, the Clyde has a more oversized fit, longer length, and gorgeous checkered lining.
SHOP TRENCH COATS
Beige Sneakers
For everyday, casual sneakers are my go-to for comfortable and easy outfits. I love how versatile a polished pair of sneakers can be – style them with trousers for a casual workwear outfit or pair with jeans for the weekend. A cream or beige color looks elegant and elevated and will make beautiful tonal outfits when worn with shades of tan or brown.
SHOP BEIGE SNEAKERS
Burgundy Bag
The color red has been a top color choice of fashion designers for the past few seasons, but for fall, hues are shifting to favor burgundy as the color of the season. I’m all for trends that are rooted in classic colors and styles, and burgundy has always been such an elegant color choice.
SHOP BURGUNDY BAGS
Full Skirt
I’ve been seeing full skirt styles all over social media, and while I don’t often wear skirts, especially as the weather turns cooler, this style is actually quite suited for fall. Pair with sneakers or ballet flats now and knee high boots in winter. This skirt could also be easily layered with tights or leggings without sacrificing style. I’m shopping for a full skirt with a bit of volume in a classic black or navy.
