Today, I’m styling one of my nine winter essentials – black pants. This is the third post in this series where I’m showing you different ways to style winter wardrobe basics. Check out the first two posts – how to style a crewneck sweater and how to style a camel coat.
Black pants are a winter essential for me. Even though I wear jeans almost everyday, I really enjoy having a different option in my wardrobe. If you’re someone who works in an office or who must dress business casual for work, a quality well-fitting pair of black pants is a must.
Since I’m not going into an office, I like to style these more casual for my daily life, but I included both casual and office looks in this style session. For my wardrobe, I prefer this trendy pair of wide leg pants from ABLE. The cut is really modern and interesting, not like your typical ‘office’ pant. With a wide leg pant, you do have to be careful about making sure your silhouette is balanced. For this reason, I prefer a slimmer cut top instead of bulky oversized pieces with these exact black pants.
I’ve linked more black pant options at the bottom of this post.
How To Style Black Pants
For the office, pair with a white button down and heels
White Button Down // Black Pants // Black Pumps // Bag (old from Target; similar)
This is a classic office look, but I like how the cut of the pants and the leopard print bag make it more fun and interesting. Switch out the tote bag for a clutch and undo a few more buttons on the top, and you’ve made this a classy look for a night out.
Pair with a striped top, white sneakers, and a canvas bag
Striped Top // Black Pants // Sneakers (limited sizing; similar) // Sunglasses // Bag (old; similar)
This outfit has me dreaming of Spring days. I love the Parisian vibes of a Breton top with white sneakers. Chic and comfortable.
Pair with a turtleneck and sweater blazer
Turtleneck // Sweater Blazer (old style from J.Crew; current version (size down)) // Black Pants // Ankle Boots (limited sizing; similar)
For this look, I love the soft drapey knit of the sweater blazer paired with the structure of the black pants. You can wear a regular blazer as well, but this look seems less ‘corporate’ to me.
Pair with a feminine blouse and sleek ankle boots
Blouse (old from Madewell; similar) // Black Pants // Boots // Bag
Along the same lines of the sweater blazer look, this feminine top paired with the structured pants makes for a lovely contrast. The tight shaft of these suede ankle boots streamlines this look and makes for the illusion of long legs.
Pair with a sweater and loafers
Sweater (fits oversized) // Black Pants // Loafers (old from Madewell; similar) // Tote Bag
A sweater paired with a pair of loafers is so classic. Another perfect look for the office or school setting. Plus, the combination of black and brown tones is a favorite of mine.
Pair with a graphic tee, leather jacket, and mules
Tee (limited sizing; similar) // Faux Leather Jacket (limited sizing; similar) // Black Pants // White Mules // Sunglasses
You will definitely see me rocking this cool mom look later this spring. Our climate doesn’t allow for mules in the winter, but I couldn’t resist adding them for this trendy look. There is definitely something really cool about a pair of white loafers.
