I’m not a person that follows trends that closely, and I especially don’t go out and buy something just because I saw it on the fashion runways. I do, however, like my wardrobe to feel fresh and updated. If a trend seems to have some staying power or if it’s just a classic style that has come back in fashion, I’m all for it. Every season, I assess the trends, and pick just a few that fit my personal style to include in my seasonal wardrobe. In this post, I’m sharing some major trends for the Fall 2024 season that I would consider adding to your closet.

I find that trends have shifted a bit in the last few years. Instead of completely new styles, we’re seeing a lot of repeat fashions from previous years. This bodes well for us who like to invest in our wardrobes. It means pulling out those leopard print flats you wore in 2018 and styling them in fresh new ways. Many of the trends, you’ll see in this list are actually timeless styles that are just really popular right now.
Fall Trends To Consider
Leopard Print
Leopard print technically never went out of style, but it’s bigger than ever this year. You can find this print in almost every style from pants to dresses and accessories. I included this leopard print mini skirt in my fall capsule wardrobe this year. This print goes with so many colors, but I like pairing it with other neutrals like tans, chocolate brown, and black and also even red.

Burgundy
Red is still very on trend, but it’s expanded to include more burgundy and merlot shades as well. I think this color is so classic and elegant and looks beautiful in the fall months. I included a burgundy bag on my fall wishlist this year. I love how it’s styled here with a plaid blazer, dark wash jeans, and loafers.

Denim
Denim everything is a big trend this year. You can find denim blue in nearly every style from trench coats to bags. This is one trend you can easily pull off with pieces from your closet. Just pair your denim top or denim jacket with a great fitting pair of jeans. The denim can be in similar colors or in different washes. Either way, it works! This is one you’ll see me wearing a lot this season.

Mary Jane Ballet Flats
Ballet flats came back in style a couple years ago which was closely followed by this Mary Jane version with the strap across the top. The shape has shifted a bit from what we were wearing in the 2010s. Instead of a rounded short toe box, styles now include a longer, more square toe which is much more flattering in my opinion. You’ll find Mary Janes in all types of materials from leather to suede to mesh. I love styling mine with more masculine pieces like button downs, trench coats, and blazers. This pair is one I recommend often as an affordable option that is also super comfortable.

Chocolate Brown
I ADORE chocolate brown! It’s classic and elegant and so very fall. It looks beautiful when styled with tans and whites. I also love the combination of brown and black. This is one trend I would plan to invest in. This color is BIG right now but will never go out of style. At retailers, you can find chocolate brown in sweaters, pants, bags, and shoes. There are so many options; I’ve linked a few below to shop.

Studded Accessories
Another trend that’s a bit more edgy and niche, are studded accessories like belts and bags. I wouldn’t spend too much here as I’m not sure if this one will be sticking around for more than a couple seasons, but it’s a fun one. An easy and affordable way to update your look would be to add a studded belt. I think it would look so cute when styled with classic pieces like a button down and jeans.

Barn Jackets
The barn jacket trend might just be my favorite. It’s cool yet practical. I purchased this super affordable barn jacket from Old Navy and included it in my fall capsule (size up if you plan to layer with sweaters!) For styling, I would pair my barn jacket with more feminine pieces to dress it up a bit. I plan to wear it with sweaters and. heeled ankle boots and also my full maxi skirt and sneakers.

Maxi Skirts
Maxi skirts are still very on trend this fall. I even included one in my fall capsule wardrobe. Mine is super affordable, too. Maxi skirts in this style with lots of volume are particularly trendy for this season. I plan to style mine with sweaters, button downs, and tees paired with jackets.

Lady Jackets
The lady jacket trend is still going strong this fall. You’ll see tons of different styles available at so many retailers. They often come in a thicker weight cotton or tweed with big gold and silver buttons down the front and small pockets at the waist. This is one of those pieces that never really goes out of style so I recommend investing here.

Suede
Suede everything is another big trend for fall. Normally, we see lots of suede accessories this time of year, but this trend has expanded to included suede jackets, pants, and blazers. I love this trend as it’s also pretty classic as well.
