I’m so excited to be sharing my fall capsule wardrobe for 2024 with you today. Every spring and fall, I put together a capsule wardrobe for the season and spend the next few weeks sharing outfits using the pieces. I find capsule wardrobes so useful for honing your personal style and making thoughtful purchases. I know capsule wardrobes seem boring to some people, but I always include a few fun and trendy items to keep things fresh and interesting.
This capsule wardrobe has 30 pieces – 11 tops, 5 jackets, 8 bottoms, and 6 pairs of shoes. In another post, I’ll be sharing the accessories I’m including in my capsule wardrobe. I prefer sticking to a neutral color palette, but I included some pops of red and even some leopard print to keep things on trend. For any items that are on the pricier side, I linked a similar, more affordable option.
Tips For Creating A Fall Capsule Wardrobe
Choose items that fit your environment and lifestyle.
This is one of the most important considerations when creating a fall capsule wardrobe. If you need to dress business casual, include more pants or skirts as opposed to jeans.
Think layers!
Fall is usually pretty cool in the mornings and evenings, but it can get downright hot in the afternoons. Include layers in your capsule wardrobe that can be easily removed.
Don’t forget the basics.
Always start your capsule wardrobe with the basics – tees in neutral colors, a great fitting pair of jeans, pants, a blazer. These will form the foundation of your wardrobe. Then add in some trendy pieces that you can style with your basics.

Tops

Button Down Shirt // Every capsule wardrobe needs a button down shirt. I’m currently into the oversized style of button downs so that is what I chose to include in my capsule. I also really love this oversized button down as well. For a more fitted version, I like this shirt (size up) and this shirt.
Striped Sweater // I adore a striped sweater, and I always include one in my fall and spring capsules. This one is super affordable and made of cotton so it’s not itchy. It comes in additional color options as well.
Cotton Sweater // A basic crew neck sweater is a capsule wardrobe standard for fall. This cotton sweater has a beautiful drape to it, and I can see myself wearing this many ways for fall.
White Blouse // A blouse is a nice way to add some femininity to your fall capsule wardrobe. I recently picked up this one from Faherty, but Sézane also has a big selection of beautiful white blouses to choose from. For an affordable option, try this.
Half-Zip Sweater // This wool sweater will be perfect for cold fall days, and it can be layered with other tops for even more warmth. It’s made from merino wool so it’s super soft and not itchy.
Lady Jacket // This button front jacket/cardigan hybrid is always classic and chic, but it’s especially trendy right now. If you’re on a budget, H&M usually has one available.
Sweater Tee // This type of top is so versatile because it can be worn on it’s own or layered with other fall pieces like blazers or denim jackets.
Red Sweatshirt // Red is very trendy right now, but I’ve always loved a little red in my wardrobe. This sweatshirt is super cozy, and I own it in several colors. Size up for a more oversized fit.
Black & White Tees // I always recommend having a black and white tee in your capsule wardrobe. These are the backbone of a capsule wardrobe. I take a size up in these for a looser fit. Here is a really good affordable option.
Striped Shirt // I like my capsule wardrobes to have a bit of Parisian influence to them, hence the striped top. I especially love it layered with a trench coat.

Quilted Jacket // For cold weather days, this warm quilted puffer will keep me nice and toasty. This one also has a water-repellent finish.
Barn Jacket // Barn jackets are very trendy right now, and this one is super affordable. I have plans to pair this with my black maxi skirt and Sambas for a cool look.
Herringbone Blazer // This wool blazer will be extra warm for the cooler fall weeks. I actually own this one from Sézane that is sold out right now, but the one I linked is very similar.
Denim Chore Jacket // Denim is all the rage for fall. I love how this looks with the tan and brown tones in my fall capsule as well as the pops of red.
Trench Coat // One of my most worn fall layers, a trench coat is so versatile and can be worn with casual and dressy outfits. I recently received this one from Madewell, and I love how it drapes. I also recommend this classic style from Sézane. See my full review and sizing recommendations here.

Bottoms

Black Pants // Jeans are really my favorite, but I like to include at least one trouser option in my capsule wardrobe for variety. These have a barrel leg which gives them a modern shape. I took my smaller size.
Black Jeans // These jeans are labeled as wide-leg, but they are really more of a straight leg. I love the patch pockets on the front. I take my smaller size at Madewell.
Maxi Skirt // Styling skirts is a little out of my comfort zone, but I wanted to give myself lots of options for outfits this fall. This one is from Target and super affordable.
Leopard Mini Skirt // I knew I wanted to include one leopard print item in my fall capsule, and this leopard mini skirt looks so cute! I have lots of ideas for how to style it.
Wide Leg Jeans // I love combination of wide leg full length jeans and boots. The jeans I’m including are from Sézane. I recommend sizing up in Sézane bottoms. If you’re petite, I also love these jeans as a wide leg full length option (take the longer inseam.) Here is another affordable alternative.
Barrel Jeans // If you’re on the fence with barrel jeans, definitely consider this pair which has a subtle curved silhouette. I think these give such an interesting shape to your outfit, but you could always stick with a classic straight leg pair like this.
Ecru Jeans // These straight leg jeans are an off-white color which makes them more appropriate for fall and winter in my opinion. I love styling them with shades of tan and brown for a monochromatic look.
Overalls // I did not have overalls on my capsule wardrobe bingo card, but here we are. I bought these on a whim a few weeks ago and think they are so adorable. Plus, these have a loose and relaxed fit making them super comfortable.

Shoes

Loafers // A classic shoe for fall, loafers are so versatile and work well for days when you want to look a little more polished. I love this brand, but it’s pretty pricey. Use code STITCHANDSALT15 for 15% off your first purchase. Here is a more affordable option.
Black Boots // One of my most worn shoes, black ankle boots are a must-have for me in my fall capsule wardrobe. I bought this pair last year, and they updated them slightly for this year with a taller shaft.
Suede Boots // Suede ankle boots were on my fall wishlist this year, and I was happy to receive these from Madewell as part of a recent collaboration. They run quite small; size up a half to full size.
Mary Jane Ballet Flats // Mary Janes are definitely one of the most trendy shoes for fall. These will definitely add some fun to my more basic outfits. STITCHANDSALT15 for 15% of your first purchase. I also own and recommend these which are more affordable.
Woven Ballet Flats // These woven ballet flats are so comfortable and the texture makes your outfit a bit more interesting. I also own these in black. STITCHANDSALT15 for 15% of your first purchase. Here is an affordable alternative.
Sneakers // I recently snagged the ever so popular Samba in this beige color. I can’t wait to style them this fall.

Hey, I love your page! I was hoping to find inks to your accessories like the bags you pair. I love the cream pelted crossbody and can’t tell if it’s Clare V or a cheaper version. Please send a link for your hand bags!
