For those of you lucky people who are heading to the City of Lights this summer, I’ve put together a Paris Summer Packing List. Our family had plans to go this year, but we had to push the trip to next year due the move. So bummed! Eat plenty of crossiants for me when you’re in Paris, will you?
For this packing list, I wanted you to be able to put together looks that are comfortable but also polished. Parisians are known for their effortlessly chic style, and I wanted you to feel like you’d fit right in with the well dressed women of Paris. With this packing list, you can create tons of outfits (more than you would probably ever need) so you’ll have tons of options depending on your itinerary for your trip. You’ll have an outfit for everything from outdoor sightseeing to museum strolling to nice dinners.
One big tip I have for packing is to stick to a color palette. This makes it much easier to mix and match the items you’ve brought. For this packing list, I chose white, beige, navy, and black. Also make sure the shoes you bring are comfortable and broken in; you’ll be doing a ton of walking for sure. For days exploring the city, I included a pair of sneakers and a pair of sandals with an ankle strap so they stay put on your feet. I threw in one pair of kitten heel sandals for evenings as well.
Be sure to pack a few accessories to elevate your outfits. I included a basket bag (quintessentially Parisian), an evening bag, a small scarf, and cat eye sunglasses. I also included a pair of earrings, but in reality, I’d probably bring along a few pieces of jewelry for variety sake.
See below for a breakdown of each piece in the packing list plus a few outfit ideas. And if you’re not headed to Paris this summer, use the outfits below for inspiration to dress chic right in your own city. That’s what I’ll be doing!
Paris Summer Packing List
Linen Shirt // A button up shirt in a lightweight fabric like linen or cotton will keep you cool while still looking chic. If you’re bringing linen, be sure to check if your hotel has a steamer or bring a travel version.
White Blouse // A feminine blouse is so very Parisian. For summer, I love a pretty white blouse. I’ve linked one from J.Crew, but I think Sézane does this best (case in point: option one, option two, option three.)
Silk Top // This little top would be perfect for nice dinners. Wear it with jeans or linen pants if jeans are against the dress code.
Striped Tank // You can’t go to Paris without some stripes. This simple tank is pretty casual so be sure to dress it up with a scarf, earrings, and basket bag.
Waistcoat // Very on trend right now, the waistcoat is a top you can dress up or down on vacation. Pair it with jeans and sandals for a day of sightseeing or with heels for a nice dinner.
White Tee // I almost always pack a white tee wherever I go. It’s nice to have for casual days. Wear it with shorts or pants and maybe a sweater over the shoulders to elevate it.
Black Tank // Another nice to have basic, a basic black tank will go with all your bottoms and is easy to layer under other pieces.
Navy Sweater // I included this sweater as a layering option for chilly days or when you’re inside with the AC on. Tie it around your waist or wear it over your shoulders when it warms up. This one from Quince is a bit more affordable.
Tailored Shorts // A tailored short or trouser short as some people call them are a refined and sophisticated shorts option. Pair these with tees, tanks, button downs, and sweaters.
Linen Pants // For pants that will work for hot days, try linen. The fabric is lightweight and breathable and looks really chic, too. I also own and recommend this pair and this pair.
Straight Leg Jeans // Straight leg jeans are definitely the preferred style of Parisians. If it’s cool enough for denim, I would pack this style for sure. Levi’s Ribcage are a classic high waisted pair. I’ve linked the full length version, but here is the cropped option for petites.
Maxi Dress // A sleeveless maxi dress is a ‘one and done’ look for a casual day of exploring. Pair it with comfy sandals and few accessories, and you’re good to go.
Sandals // A pair of well fitting, broken in sandals is a must have for any summer trip. Pick one with a strap around the ankle so it won’t slide off your feet when you’re navigating the cobblestones streets of Paris.
Sneakers // For a day with a ton of walking plans, I will always go with my most comfortable sneakers. Adidas Sambas fit the bill, but Converse and Veja’s are also really popular in Paris.
Heeled Sandals // If your vacation plans include dinner out at a nice restaurant, I would definitely pack a pair of comfortable kitten heels. Nothing too tall or with a skinny heel.
Accessories: Small Scarf // Sunglasses // Earrings // Evening Bag // Basket Bag
