I adore the look of a cropped cardigan tucked into high waisted jeans. It’s Parisian chic and a little sexy without being too revealing. It’s one of my go-to outfit combinations especially in the spring. My favorite cropped cardigan is the Sézane Gaspard Cardigan which I own in ecru and camel. The quality is amazing and the fit is perfection; however, it is a little scratchy especially for those who are sensitive to wool. I’ve gotten a few requests to share some alternative options to the Gaspard Cardigan for this reason.
I went digging, and I found ten cropped cardigans that are similar to the Gaspard. Some of these are more budget friendly while others are made from a material that isn’t quite so itchy. On this list, I’ve included options with no wool as I know some people are very sensitive to it. Cotton or synthetic options won’t have that soft yarn look like the Gaspard, but I think they are good alternatives for those with sensitive skin.
And, let it be known, although, I’m sharing alternatives to the Gaspard in this post, I still think it has the best fit and quality. So if you’re not particularly sensitive to wool and it is within your budget, I definitely recommend going with the real thing.

TEN CROPPED CARDIGANS FOR SPRING

Quince Mongolian Cashmere Cardigan Sweater
For a more affordable, but still ethically made alternative, this cashmere cardigan sweater from Quince is a good option.
Price: $69.90
Color Options: Black, Brown, Gray, Navy, & Oatmeal

Boden Catriona Cotton Cardigan
If you are especially sensitive to wool, this cardigan from Boden is 80% cotton and 20% synthetic fibers so you’d be itch free!
Price: $85.00
Color Options: Ten colors available, but my favorites are poppy red, warm ivory, navy, & black

This cardigan from J.Crew is made with lyocell, a more sustainably produced fiber. Although it doesn’t have those beautiful mother of pearl buttons like the Gaspard, it would look really similar tucked into high waisted jeans, perhaps with some mary jane ballet flats or loafers.
Price: $118
Color Options: Red, Beige, Camel, Gray, Black, & Navy

Everlane Viscose Knit Cardigan
This cardigan from Everlane appears more fitted so I would consider sizing up to replicate the look of the Gaspard cardigan. It’s made of sustainably produced viscose so it wouldn’t be scratchy in the slightest.
Price: $128
Colors Options: Beige, Black, & Navy

Madewell Alpaca-Blend V-Neck Cardigan Sweater
This sweater (pictured above) is chic and feminine. It’s made from an alpaca blend (62% alpaca and 38% synthetic). I will say it’s just a bit itchy, but not as itchy as the Gaspard. I have my true size, and you can see it’s very fitted. Size up for a looser fit and longer length.
Price: $98
Colors Options: Light Blue & Yellow

Gap Lightweight CashSoft Cardigan
For a very affordable alternative to create a similar look to the Gaspard, this cardigan from Gap would do the trick! It’s made from cotton, polyester, and nylon.
Price: $48 to $55 (at time of posting)
Color Options: Tan, Black, Yellow, Blue, Beige, Pink

Boden Eva Cashmere Cropped Cardigan
For that soft knitted yarn look of the Gaspard without the itch, try a cashmere cardigan instead. This one from Boden has a very similar look, but cashmere is usually much softer than other wool (reviews say it’s very soft.)
Price: $145
Color Options: Blue, Ivory, Navy, Red

Cuyana Single Origin Cashmere Cardigan
This cardigan is the most similar alternative that I have found. You can even wear it with the buttons in the back just like the Gaspard. It’s made of soft cashmere, and the reviews I found online said it was not itchy. It is $$$ though so this would be an investment.
Price: $248
Color Options: Beige, Black, Ecru

This cardigan alternative from Sézane is made from a blend of cotton and synthetic fibers so it won’t be itchy or scratchy at all. It is also around the same price point and will be the high quality piece that Sézane is famous for.
Price: $125
Color Options: Cream

If you’re really on a tight budget, H&M always has cropped cardigans like this available to shop.
Price: $14.99
Color Options: Black, Cream, & Striped
