Black jeans are one of my fall wardrobe must-haves. They add just a little edge to a classic outfit. I always include a pair of black denim in my fall capsule wardrobe, and they are always one of my most-worn bottoms every fall and winter.
In today’s post, I’m working with Madewell to share two different outfits with black jeans. This post is sponsored by Madewell, but all opinions are my own. I’ve been shopping at Madewell long before I began partnering with the brand.
Madewell always carries a selection of modern yet timeless pieces that are also really well made. I’ve been so impressed with their fall selection this year, too. I love each and every item in the outfits I’m featuring today.
Right now, you can get 25% off most of the pieces as a Madewell Insider! It’s free to sign up, and the discount is automatically applied at checkout. Sales runs from 9/19 to 9/29.
About These Black Jeans
The black jeans I’m stying in this post are the Emmett Wide Leg Full Length Jean. This particular pair has patch pockets in front which gives them a little retro vibe. They are wide leg but not exaggeratedly so and they made of 99% cotton and 1% spandex so they hold you in but still have a little stretch. I love the high rise fit, too.
These also come in petite, standard, tall, and plus sizes. As someone with proportionally short legs, I know I can count on Madewell jeans to fit without having to be tailored.
Colors To Pair With Black Jeans
Throw out the old rules when it comes to styling black. Colors you would have never considered previously are now on the table. I particularly love the following color combinations: black & navy, black & brown, black & tan, black & white, black & olive green, and black & light blue.
Two Ways To Style Black Jeans For Fall
With A Striped Button Down & Ankle Boots
This classic combination gets elevated with this midnight blue striped button down. I love pairing navy and black together these days, and this combination feels cool yet sophisticated.
This isn’t your classic button down either. This Easy V-Neck Button Down is made of 100% cotton and has a modern, boxy fit. Plus, the length is just right for wearing untucked for an easy, everyday look that feels elevated.
I paired this button down top with black jeans, suede ankle boots, and this stunning woven tote bag in chocolate brown. The Handwoven Leather Tote is perfect for taking to the office or even for toting around on weekends to hold all the mom things. I love the texture and interest this bag adds to all my outfits.

With A Trench Coat & Ballet Flats
This second outfit is causal yet polished. This is an outfit combination I wear many times in the fall and spring months. I started with a not-so-basic white tee. This Oversized Long Sleeve Crewneck Tee has a cool oversized fit and wide sleeves. It comes in a few color options as well including stripes!
To style this outfit, I added a trench coat, one of my most worn fall layers. This one is lightweight with a drapey fit and will work well for early fall.
I paired this with some beautiful and trendy ballet flats in this warm sand color. The April Ballet Flat is so comfortable right out of the box. Lastly, I added a suede bag for texture. I love that this one can be worn as a crossbody bag.
