In this post, I’m showing you six different ways to style a midi dress for spring. This is the second post in this spring style series where I’m styling different spring closet essentials. In the last post, I styled a basic white tee for spring.
I recently picked up this midi dress from Target. A light spring dress was on my purchase list for the season, and when I saw this one in the store, I grabbed it immediately. Being petite, midi dresses can be hard sometimes because they tend to turn in to maxi dresses, but this one actually hits just below my calves. I’m 5′ 3″. It’s also available in a blue stripe.
I’m not normally a dress person because they can be hard to style different ways so this post was definitely a challenge for me. After some thought, I came up with six different ways to wear this dress, some on the more casual side while some more dressy.
LOOK ONE: Easter or Spring Holiday

Dress // Sandals // Purse (old, similar)
This will be my Easter outfit. We have plans to spend time with my immediate family this year, and I’m pretty excited about it. I always like to wear a dress for Easter, and this one is comfortable enough to wear around all day. I’ve had these sandals for years, and they are my go-to spring and summer dressy shoes.
LOOK TWO: For the Playground

Dress // Sandals (old from Madewell, similar) // Belt Bag (old from Madewell, similar)
The belt bag (or fanny pack) is the ultimate mom purse. It keeps my hands free for pushing kids on the swings or grabbing a kid who just got stuck on the monkey bars. This one is old from Madewell, and no longer available, but I linked a similar (and more affordable) one above.
LOOK THREE: Brunch with Your Friends

Sweater // Dress // Boots
I’ll be honest, I don’t really do ‘brunch with friends’ that often, but it felt right for this look. Maybe I’ll plan a brunch just to wear this outfit! To accomplish the tucked in sweater look, clasp a thin belt around your waist, tuck your sweater in in the back and front, and then fold it over so the belt is hidden.
LOOK FOUR: Day Date

Dress // Denim Jacket // Block Heel Sandals
This look would be perfect for a day date with your significant other this spring. Plan a picnic lunch, go for a wine tasting at your local winery, or grab beers on the patio of your favorite brewery. If you aren’t a fan of heels, try a shoe with a block heel. I find a block heel to be way more comfortable and easy to walk in.
LOOK FIVE: Errands

Tee // Dress // Sneakers // Sunnies // Scrunchie
Sneakers are a must for running errands, and these ones from Madewell are so comfortable. Instead of tying this tee at the waist, I used a clear elastic hair tie (like the ones for kids), to create this knot. This prevents the fabric from getting stretched out. I love how adding a top gives the illusion that this is a skirt rather than a dress.
LOOK SIX: Baby Shower, Wedding Shower, or Other Semi Dressy Occasion

White Button Down (from Everlane, sold out, similar) // Dress // Heeled Mules (old from Old Navy, similar)
The white button down and heeled shoes makes this a more formal outfit, not something I would wear in my day to day life, but definitely something I would wear for a get-together. I’ve had these heeled mules for a couple of years and they are no longer available, but I linked a similar version from Target.
I hope this gave you some ideas of how to style a midi dress. I’m so ready for spring and the warm weather and outdoor adventures it brings.
