The Sézane Max Shirt is one of my most worn Sézane pieces. It’s got this perfect oversized fit and boxy shape that combines modern and classic in the best way. Plus, it’s incredibly versatile and can be styled for all sorts of occasions from dressy to casual. The Max Shirt is one of the most popular pieces in the Sézane product line, and new versions in different colors and prints are released with seasonal collections. In this post, I’m providing a review of the Sézane Max Shirt including material composition, fit and sizing (especially for petites!) and overall impressions. Also, see below for a comparison of the Sézane Max Shirt and the Sézane Tomboy Shirt (another button down shirt from Sézane) and a few ways I’ve styled the Max Shirt in the past year.

Review Of The Sézane Max Shirt
Material Composition
Here’s a quick breakdown of the material composition found in the Sézane Max Shirt. Note that I own the Casual White colorway; other colorways may be manufactured with different materials like silk and linen. The casual white is made up of 100% cotton textile. The material feels structured but soft. It definitely gives an effortlessly chic vibe as opposed to a stiff and serious look that some button downs can give off.
Care instructions say to wash this shirt on cold cycle which I’ve done without issue.
Fit & Sizing
This button down fits very oversized and boxy. It has a rounded bottom and mother of pearl buttons. Personally, I found the size below my normal size to fit perfectly. As someone who is petite, I often worry about length on oversized shirts. If it’s too long, it shortens my legs and throws my proportions off. At a size below, the length of this shirt hits just at the top of my thighs, and it still looks oversized. For reference, I’m wearing the size 0, and I’m 5’3″.
You can tuck this shirt in, but I actually recommend wearing this one untucked. Because of it’s oversized fit and longer length, tucking results in bunching and and excess fabric at the top of your bottoms. If I’m planning to tuck in my button down, I prefer one with a less oversized fit like the Sézane Tomboy Shirt.
If you are not petite or very busty, I would stick with your normal size.
Difference Between The Sézane Max Shirt And The Sézane Tomboy Shirt
The Sézane Tomboy Shirt is another button down style from Sézane. It has a more classic slim fit as opposed to the Max Shirt which is much more oversized. I actually do recommend going up one or two sizes in the Tomboy Shirt because, in my opinion, it runs quite small.
Overall Impressions
The Sézane Max Shirt is honestly one of the most worn shirts in my closet. It truly emanates that coveted effortlessly cool Parisian style that many of us are trying to achieve. Plus, as with everything Sézane makes, the quality is unmatched. However, if you’re someone who always tucks in their button downs, you may prefer the Sézane Tomboy Shirt which is much easier to wear this way.
Because it’s so versatile, it will be a piece you can grab again and again. Style it buttoned or unbutton, over a swimsuit or with tailored shorts. There are so many options.
