I have been really into the minimalist trend lately, not only in my life in general, but also in my personal style. It makes getting dressed easy and effortless and everything in my closet can be paired with everything else so my wardrobe is maximized. In this post, I’m sharing nine everyday minimal outfits for spring and summer. You’ll see a lot of pieces repeated in the outfits below, and that’s how your wardrobe should be!
When it comes to minimal style, obviously, less is best. It’s all about simple, high quality basics, clean lines, natural fabrics, and neutral colors. When creating minimal outfits, it’s best to choose the best quality you can afford to make the outfit more chic and elevated. One simple strategy for those of us on a budget is to combine investment pieces with affordable pieces. I also recommend making sure you have the right undergarments because lines will show so much more when you are wearing simple outfits. I recommend this seamless underwear which I wear everyday and own in different cuts and colors.
Nine Minimal Outfits For Spring & Summer
ONE: Blazer + Linen Shorts + White Sneakers
Blazer (old from H&M; similar) // Linen Shorts (I sized down) // Cropped Tank (I sized down) // Sneakers (affordable option) // Bag (code ASHLEYR15) sold out in this color; similar) // Necklace (code ASHLEYROHR10) // Sunglasses
A monochromatic minimal outfit is so chic. Here I’ve paired this inexpensive H&M blazer with a pair of linen shorts. Having pieces in the same color shades makes your outfit look more expensive, too. These sneakers are definitely an investment (I received them as a birthday gift) but I linked a similar option that is much more affordable. Any slim white sneaker will do!
TWO: White Tank + Medium Wash Denim + White Sandals
Cropped Tank (I sized down) // Denim (I took my smaller size) // White Sandals // Bag (code ASHLEYR15; sold out in this color; similar) // Necklace (code ASHLEYROHR10)
For some reason, I just love a simple tank paired with high waisted jeans. This outfit is super simple, but elevated a bit with great fitting jeans and a chunky necklace. For this denim, I took my smaller size and also cut the hem so they would hit just above my ankle which I think is the most flattering length.
THREE: Matching Set + Birkenstocks Sandals
Button Down (I sized down) // Shorts (I sized down) // Birkenstocks // Bag // Necklace // Sunglasses
I definitely recommend getting yourself a matching set for the summer! You can wear the pieces together or separately. This poplin button down from Madewell is so good; I styled it another way here. Both the top and shorts run pretty large, so I recommend sizing down. I’m wearing the XXS.
FOUR: Black Tank + Tapered Pants + Birkenstocks Sandals
Cropped Tank (I sized down) // Pants (I sized down to the 00) // Birkenstocks // Bag // Sunglasses // Necklace (code ASHLEYROHR10)
A pant with a tapered leg gives a casual, laid back vibe that I love for summer. The pants make a statement by themselves so sticking with a simple black tank and black Birkenstocks works well. Just a note – I plan to take these pants into the tailor to be shortened but I haven’t gotten the chance yet!
FIVE: Black Blazer + White Denim + Birkenstock Sandals
Cropped Tank (I sized down) // Black Blazer // White Denim (old from Everlane; current version) // Birkenstock Sandals // Bag // Necklace (code ASHLEYROHR10) // Sunglasses
You can also style a high contrast minimal look using black and white. A blazer is a staple for me every season, and a must-have for any capsule wardrobe. This look also follows the ‘sandwich rule’ which means the shoes and the top are the same color (like a sandwich, get it?) I almost always follow this rule especially when wearing black as it can look pretty unbalanced if not done properly.
SIX: Oversized Button Down + Slim Cut Denim + Flats
Oversized Button Down (I sized down for length) // Denim (wash is old; similar) // Oxfords (code ASHROHR for 20% off your first purchase) // Sunglasses // Necklace // Bag (code ASHLEYR15; sold out in this color; similar)
I’m very into the untucked trend this year especially when it comes to oversized button downs. The key is to make sure your bottoms are slim fitting so the entire look is proportional. I paired this button down with my favorite Oxfords from the sustainable brand, Nisolo, but you could also choose loafers or mules. See this post for more ways to style this white button down.
SEVEN: Striped Top + Wide Leg Jeans + High Top Converse
Striped Top (affordable option) // Wide Leg Denim (I took my smaller size and the longer inseam) // High Top Converse // Bag // Sunglasses
Have you tried the wide leg denim trend yet? I’m picking about which trends I invest in and I definitely waited awhile to try this one out, but now I’m all in. The key is finding the pair that fits you just right. If you’re petite, I LOVE this pair I’m wearing from Everlane. I took my smaller size and the longer inseam so they would fit full length. If you’re taller, I also own this affordable pair from H&M which is great quality for the price and much longer (I can only wear them with heels!) They restock often so check back if they are sold out.
EIGHT: Black Tee + Wide Leg Trousers + Black Sandals
Black Tee // Wide Leg Trousers (I sized down) // Sandals (more affordable option) // Sunglasses // Bag
I don’t think I will ever tire of this look. It’s chic and elevated but so comfortable. I always pair my wide leg trousers with a more fitted top for a balanced look. This pair has a very wide leg, but I also own this pair from Everlane which are a bit slimmer through the leg.
NINE: White Tee + Medium Wash Denim + Nude Sandals
Tee (code ASHLEYR15) // Denim (I took my smaller size) // Sandals // Sunglasses // Bag (code ASHLEYR15; sold out in this color; similar) // Necklace (code ASHLEYROHR10)
If I had to choose one outfit to wear for the rest of my life, this would be it. I just adore a simple look with a white tee and denim. I paired it with a barely there, nude sandal, chunky necklace, and round sunglasses to complete the look.
For more simple minimal outfits, see this post with outfits for early fall which would also work for spring.
