Lately, I’ve been drawn to more minimalist outfits. I love simplicity in my wardrobe, and I’ve been leaning towards more basic pieces in neutral colors that can be mixed and matched. I wanted to show you how this concept works with a minimalist early fall capsule wardrobe which includes 10 pieces that I’ve styled in 10 different outfits below. I also plan to do a minimalist late fall capsule wardrobe as well with more boots and sweaters later on in the season.
Below I’ve listed the pieces I chose for this capsule plus 10 different ways to style them. I own each of these pieces and highly recommend them all. Each piece is really good quality and will last you several years.
Early Fall Capsule Wardrobe: The Pieces
Black Tee: These tees from Everlane are my favorite. They have a slightly boxy, cropped fit which is more modern than your typical crewneck styles. I get my true size in these, but if you have a longer torso or want a looser fit, size up one.
Button Down: Even though I dress casually most days, I still wear my button downs all the time (I’m wearing one right now as I type this.) This one is a brighter blue with a thin stripe and an oversized fit. I also just purchased this button down in blue and white and love the fit and quality. They are less oversized, but still a relaxed fit and not see through.
White Tee: Another basic for your wardrobe. You definitely need a quality white tee to either wear on its own or layer with blazers and sweaters for colder weather.
Black Denim: Like I mentioned, my wardrobe is pretty casual so you’ll usually find me in denim, but if you’re going into the office, you could switch these out for a black pant like these which I own and are really sophisticated but comfortable.
Mid-Wash Denim: A good pair of denim is a must-have. These Perfect Vintage Jeans from Madewell are one of my favorite pairs. They are a nice blend between a skinny jean and a straight leg as they fit slim through the waist and thighs but straight through the bottom leg. I size down in this style, but stay true to size if you tend to carry weight in your mid-section.
Trench Coat: A trench coat is so chic and classic. I finally invested in one last fall, and I’ve worn it so many times. I really like the drape on this one from Everlane. I sized down in mine.
Gray Cardigan: A cozy outer layer will get you through those chilly mornings but can easily be removed when the weather warms up in the afternoon. This alpaca cardigan is so soft and cozy. Size down one.
Leather Jacket: A leather jacket is not really a necessity for your capsule wardrobe (they are $$$,) but if you’re looking to invest in one, they are so versatile and perfect for a capsule wardrobe. I sized up in this one from Able.
White Sneakers: A chic white sneaker is a fall staple. I know that chunky sneakers are all the rage right now, but I prefer a crisp, plain white fashion sneaker with very little height.
Black Loafers (similar): A loafer is a classic shoe that will never go out of style. Mine are slightly chunky with a gum sole, but I’ve linked a second option that you may prefer.
