I have a new spring capsule wardrobe to share in this post! This is my 23 piece May Capsule Wardrobe. I’ve also included 30 outfit ideas so you can see how to mix and match these pieces for maximum versatility. I chose mostly cool tones in this capsule wardrobe and all neutral colors as that is what I’m drawn to these days. To break it down, I included 7 tops, 3 outerwear pieces, 2 dresses, 5 bottoms, and 6 pairs of shoes.
The weather this time of year can be all over the place so I tried to create outfits for warmer days and cooler days. Summer will be here soon so we need to enjoy those layers while we can!
See below for more details about each piece and outfit ideas! Check out this post for last year’s May Capsule Wardrobe.
May Capsule Wardrobe
The Pieces: Tops
White Sweater Tank // I own this sweater tank in the Forgotten Landscape color, but selected the white for this capsule wardrobe for versatility sake. It fits true to size.
Oversized Button Down // I’ve been loving the oversized button down trend which is why I selected two for this capsule wardrobe. My favorite one is the Max Shirt from Sézane. I sized down for a shorter length since I’m petite.
Tan Boyfriend Cardigan // This tan boyfriend cardigan has the perfect relaxed fit and casual vibe. It’s a nice layering piece for those cool mornings and evenings. It fits true to size. You can also button it and wear it as a sweater.
Striped Tee // You can’t have a spring capsule wardrobe without a striped tee! This one from ABLE is a heavy weight cotton that has a boxy, relaxed fit. You can use my code ASHLEYR15 for 15% off.
White Blouse // This white blouse pictured is from Zara, but I recently ordered this one from Sézane that looks adorable.
Black Cropped Tank // A cropped tank is nice for wearing with high waisted bottoms (no low rise for me!) I sized down in this one.
Black Oversized Button Down // This poplin button down has an easy breezy fit and looks incredibly chic. It is part of the matching set with the poplin shorts included in this capsule as well. It fits very oversized; I recommend sizing down.
The Pieces: Outerwear
Trench Coat // The weather can be unpredictable this time of year, and a trench coat is the perfect chic outerwear option for windy or rainy days. This one pictured is from Mango, but I own this one from Everlane.
Black Blazer // A blazer is a must have for me in all my capsule wardrobes. It’s probably my most worn outerwear piece, and I own several colors. I chose black for this capsule for versatility, but a beige one like this would be a nice option, too.
Denim Jacket // A denim jacket is a classic spring layer. The oversized style is really trending right now, and I’m currently on the hunt for the perfect one. This one pictured is from Mango, but this and this are also good options.
The Pieces: Dresses
Black Dress // This a-line dress from Everlane is easy to wear and flattering on all body types. It fits true to size.
White Dress // I also included a white dress (spring and summer are pretty much the only seasons I wear dresses regularly.) This one pictured is from Madewell, but I own this one from Pact, and I LOVE it.
The Pieces: Bottoms
White Straight Denim // Another spring classic, white denim looks a little more dressed up than regular denim so I think its okay to wear to an office or work setting. I own an older pair from Everlane, but this version linked is very similar.
Medium Wash Straight Denim // This is my most worn bottoms for spring. I own this pair from Everlane that is a true straight leg, but I also have this pair from Madewell which is a slimmer cut that fits tight through the hips and thighs but has a wider opening through the calves and ankles. This pair is also a great option for petites!
Linen Shorts // It’s that time of year to break our your linen pieces. It’s a light natural fabric that is made for the warmer months. I sized down in these shorts.
Denim Shorts // These denim shorts from Everlane have a high waist, a-line cut, and slightly longer length which I prefer for my shorts. I suggest staying true to size for these.
Poplin Shorts // These shorts are so easy breezy with a wide cut leg. They match the black poplin button down in this capsule wardrobe. I sized down.
The Pieces: Shoes
Woven Mules // You’ll see I love woven details for spring and summer as it adds a little texture to otherwise simple spring and summer outfits. You can use my code ASHROHR for 20% off these sandals at Nisolo.
Black Sandals // I love the look of a strappy black sandal that doesn’t look too heavy. This pair pictured is from Beek and a bit pricey, but here is a similar option that is more budget-friendly.
Nude Sandals // These sandals pretty much go with everything since they are a neutral shade and simple design.
High Top Converse // These casual shoes look so good paired with more dressy spring pieces like button downs and blazers.
White Sneakers // The classic white sneaker is essential for spring and summer. My pair was a birthday gift this year and are also a little expensive. This pair is more affordable and very similar. I also have this pair from Everlane which I wear all the time as well.
Fisherman Mules // These may be my favorite spring shoes. They are different and cool and the color just makes them stand out. They fit true to size.
