One of the pieces I was desperately lacking from my closet (as much as someone can desperate lack an item of clothing) was a suede jacket. It’s one of those pieces that truly is timeless (no but really this one actually is!)
Being as I plan on having it for the rest of my life, it’s not an item I was going to skimp on. I wanted it to be real suede (sustainably made preferably) with a slightly oversized fit and a hip skimming length. And of course, one of my favorite brands pulled through for me. This is the Will Jacket in Camel Suede from Sézane (don’t ask me how many Will Jackets I own at this point.) They released it last year as part of their fall collection, and due to it’s popularity, it has been restocked a few times. As of the writing of this post, it’s only available in limited sizes, but I’m sure it will be restocked so keep checking back. The sizing recommendation on the site is accurate, but size up if you really like things to fit oversized. I’m wearing the XS for reference. I’m linking more options at different price points below plus some additional suede jacket styling inspiration I pulled from Pinterest.
As I always do when I purchase something new for my wardrobe, especially an item I’ve never styled before, I like to play a game of dress up (try it, it’s fun!) I came up with eight ways to style this suede jacket from date night to casual everyday. Admittedly, each outfit isn’t that different, (many of these outfits involve a plain white tee), however, I think subtle changes in styling can be powerful in altering the formality or vibe of your look. Swapping a sandal for a strappy heel and switching bags takes the outfit from daytime to evening. Changing from a light wash denim to a dark wash changes the look up a bit, too.
Here’s some finer styling points that I discovered while performing this suede jacket outfit exercise:
My jacket is a little oversized but not much. For that reason, I found it looked best with looser and longer bottoms. Personally, I don’t enjoy a look on me where everything fits slim.
I found my suede jacket paired nicely with many different colors including white, black (my fave!), cream, red, and gray. Admittedly, these are mostly neutrals, but that’s my wardrobe for ya.
Soon we will be entering that transitional phase of dressing where we can wear sandals with long sleeves. The most wonderful time of the year! Showing some skin, even if it’s just your feet, does wonders for a lewk. I found this suede jacket looked soooo cuuuuute with a chic sandal.
Even though I’ve seen many people style a brown suede jacket with a denim shirt or dress, that particular look pulls a little Western, and that’s just not my vibe. However, go for it if that’s your style!
All these looks I’ve styled have the suede jacket worn open, but I actually thought it looked super cool and modern with it buttoned up, too. A look I definitely want to try for a spring date night.
How To Style A Suede Jacket
Outfit One: Suede Jacket + White Tee + Black Pants + Brown Loafers

I pulled this look straight from my ‘Casual Chic Outfits: No Jeans!’ post. If you read that post, you may know that these are actually sweatpants. For those days when you just can’t do buttons, these have an elasticized waistband. This is an outfit I would wear for a work from home day, Zoom meetings, or even to the casual office.
Outfit Two: Cropped Black Tee + Suede Jacket + Black Jeans + Strappy Heels

Here’s my next date night look. As far as ‘going out’ looks, I don’t think you can get more ‘me’ than this. It’s a little edgy, a little sexy, but still casual. This tee is actually cropped, and the hem hits right at the top of my high waisted jeans. It’s actually a performance material so it has stretch to it. Definitely size up. I paired it with my favorite full length jeans (try these if you’re tall) and a pair of strappy heels and a baguette bag. Below, I actually tried wearing it all the way buttoned, and it looked smashing if I do say so.

Outfit Three: Black Tee + Suede Jacket + Black Jeans + Sandals

This is almost the same look as above with a few changes to make it more daytime friendly. I’m wearing the same jeans, but I swapped the tee for a relaxed fit style, switched the heels to sandals and added a woven bag and sunglasses. The minute the weather hits 65 degrees, I’m wearing this.
Outfit Four: Cream Tee + Suede Jacket + White Jeans + Flats

I love this one, too! One thing this style sesh made me realize is how much this suede jacket fits seamlessly into my wardrobe. Investment purchase success! Here, I styled it with a cream colored tee (this one is a linen/cotton blend) white full length jeans (these have a comfortable mid-rise), and brown flats.
Outfit Five: Button Down Shirt + Suede Jacket + Barrel Jeans + Loafers

Here, I wanted to play around with a different style of shirt, and it worked! For a more polished look, I reached for my favorite white button down and loafers. I didn’t want this outfit to look too ‘corporate’ so I chose a trendy barrel jean style with this. I think any type of wide leg jean would work here.
Outfit Six: Black Tee + Suede Jacket + Black Mini Skirt + Flats

Look, I’m wearing a skirt! Already succeeding in my wardrobe goals this year. Go me. I think the key when it comes to skirts on my particular body shape (muscular and petite) is to make sure they are quite short or quite long; anything that hits closer to my knee just doesn’t look right on me. This mini skirt is actually part of an upcoming partnership with Everlane next week (I cannot wait for you to see it!) As you can see, I love an all black look with the brown suede worn over top. It just works.
Outfit Seven: Gray Sweater + Suede Jacket + Light Wash Jeans + Red Flats

Here’s an early spring look for ya. I’m digging the gray and caramel color combination here. This is a cotton knit with a boxy shape. Because I went more ‘classic’ on top, I chose some trendy pieces for the bottom with these baggy cuffed denim and red ballet flats.
Outfit Eight: White Tee + Suede Jacket + Medium Wash Jeans + Sandals

I actually wore this look after I finished this session. I swapped the sandals for loafers for practicality sake (it is still winter however much we don’t want it to be.) This is very similar to the other looks I shared, but I wanted to show you how suede pairs with darker washes of denim. This is a wide leg pair from Sézane (disclosure: I had these hemmed; Sézane bottoms run long.) I stuck with the classic white tee and nude sandals for an easy breezy spring look.
