I’ve been seeing so many crop tops everywhere lately. I avoided the trend for awhile – I didn’t think I’d be comfortable showing my midriff, but they grew on me! And while it might be the tiniest top I’ve ever bought (at least in my post-college years!), I’ve been wearing it a ton lately. In this post, I’m showing you six elevated crop top outfit ideas for summer.
Quick disclaimer that you can wear whatever you like at any age, but for me personally as a mom and a woman in her late 30s, I wanted to style my crop top in a more elevated and modest way. I’ve seen lots of teenagers wearing crop tops with sweatpants and dad sneakers, but that’s not my style personally.
This exact crop top is from Everlane, but it has limited sizing available in black. It is fully stocked in the white, however. It is very fitted, but I would stick with your true size as it looks more seamless this way. I find that it comes right to the top of my high waisted bottoms so it naturally only shows a tiny sliver of skin, but in some outfits I did fold the bottom of the top under slightly to show a little more skin. If you have a longer torso, you may consider sizing up one. I found a really similar option at Madewell, and here is a more affordable option from Gap.

I’ve been loving the look of open button down to elevate my warm weather looks. It’s much more lightweight if you find an option in linen or cotton. I also love this oversized white button down made from organic cotton from Parallel 51 (code ASHLEY15), but it was in the wash when I took these photos! A pair of tan linen shorts is a must for me for summer. They make my summer outfits look a little more polished and put together.
LOOK TWO: With Straight Denim, Pumps, and a Clutch Bag

A crop top, good denim, and a pair of heels makes for a perfect casual, but sexy date night outfit. I would definitely stick with a more wide cut pair of denim for this look as it appears more balanced with the crop top versus say skinny jeans.

I wore this look when we visited some wineries in Missouri a few weekends ago. This midi skirt is a beautiful rust color. I just love earthy tones any time of the year.

Try pairing your crop top with a blazer for a chic look either with paperbag shorts like these or with your favorite denim. If you’re a little uncomfortable showing your midriff, adding a layer like a blazer can help.
LOOK FIVE: With Denim Shorts, Sandals, and Optional Third Piece

Here is a casual look for everyday – made more balanced by pairing a crop top with a longer length pair of denim shorts and a third piece like a striped top to add interest. You could also tie the striped top around your shoulders for another option.

This is probably the most ‘youthful’ look if you will, but I’m into it. Trousers with Converse are very trendy right now if you’re up for it. You could also switch out the full length trousers for a pair of wide leg cropped pants or denim for a similar look.
