If twenty-year-old Ashley could see herself now – mixing brown and black, blasphemous! But, oh, how times have changed. Mixing black and brown colors in one outfit used to be a major fashion faux pas, but one thing I love about fashion in today’s terms is that no color combinations are off limits. In this post, I’m sharing a black and brown outfit using new pieces I recently picked up from Sézane.
Note that these items were gifted from Sézane, but this blog post is not sponsored. I truly love this brand and have purchased many pieces with my own money.

Black and Brown Outfit Inspiration

Sézane does so many things so well (beautiful knitwear, timeless Parisian style to name a few) but one category of clothing I adore is their blouses. I recently fell in love with the Philoe Blouse (seen here) and after seeing the Erica Blouse, pictured here, I knew I had to make it mine.
Given my penchant for minimal styling, I typically stay away from prints (besides stripes; I will never have enough striped tops in my wardrobe) however, the small flowers on this blouse are more understated.

For my capsule wardrobes, I always recommend having a feminine blouse as one of your tops. You can pair it with jeans for a more casual look or with trousers for the office. It’s a versatile, classic piece.
For sizing, this blouse runs slightly big; however, I’m wearing my typically Sézane size 2. If this is your first time purchasing from Sézane, know that the brand usually runs a little small.

Sometimes pairing black and brown can seem a little off, but when your top has a little brown as part of the print, it feels a little more natural. These pants are called the Le Crop Pant, and this colorway was recently released in Sézane’s Holiday Collection as part of a collaboration with Laura Brown, a journalist and fellow Sézane lover. The entire collection was so amazing – retro styling in the best way. The mix of brown and red was prominent, and it may just be my next color feature on the blog!

These pants are made from 100% organic cotton denim fabric but because they aren’t ‘blue jeans’, I think they would work for a more casual office environment.
I usually find Sézane bottoms to run VERY long so keep that in mind if you’re petite. I’m 5’3″ with a proportionally short inseam measurement so these do fit me a little longer than I’d like. I might end up doing a raw hem (read: cutting with scissors) or having them tailored. I can’t decide!
As I mentioned above, Sézane sizing usually runs small, but their bottoms always run small. I took my larger size 2. I definitely recommend sizing up in all their bottoms.

For shoes, I’m wearing my beloved Sézane Axelle Boots in polished camel. They are a classic heeled ankle boot with a statement finish and are a look all on their own. These fit true to size.

I hope this post gave you the confidence to start creating black and brown outfits! For more of my Sézane favorites for fall and winter, see this post.
