Life feels like a bit of a rollercoaster right now. While in the last two weeks, I have seen leaps of improvement in my brain health (no more brain fog and headaches) I’ve had some increasing difficulties with my Crohn’s disease, most definitely brought on by stress. This recovery has been two steps forward and one step back. I start my infusion medication (Entyvio, if you’re curious) later this month, and I’m hopeful that with diet changes, stress reduction, and this new medication, I can get things back on track.
However, I am so glad to be returning to my normal activities which now include driving again (yay!) my full exercise routine, normal blog work hours, and all my mom and house duties, too. Just in time, too because summer vacation is just around the corner, and we have lots of plans.
STYLE
Here’s a roundup of outfits I photographed last week. We are still waiting for summer here in Seattle so light layers are still required. You can find links to all these outfits on my Daily Looks page.
ENTERTAINMENT
I finished up The Women by Kristin Hannah (highly recommend) and started Bossypants by Tina Fey which I checked out from the library. It was released about ten years ago, but I had yet to read it. It’s funny and light-hearted and just what I need right now.
We also finished up Season 1 of Ted Lasso, and I’m kicking myself for not watching it sooner. It’s SO good.
I’m also finally catching up on the Mel Robbins podcast episodes I missed during the last two months. This episode about living a longer and healthier life where Mel interviews her 86 year-old mother-in-law was so inspiring and sweet, and this episode featuring an interview with a neuroscientist who specializes in stress management was helpful and timely.
FOOD
As I mentioned, due to stress, my Crohn’s disease has flared again so I’m having to make some alterations to my diet. In previous flares, I saw a naturopathic doctor who recommended a paleo style diet to reduce inflammation. I had good results with it in the past so I’m attempting to eat this way again. I’m not going to be super strict (I still eat dairy and some grains like rice) but hopefully, together with the Entyvio infusions, I’m starting in a couple weeks, I can get it under control.
Recipe-wise, I’ve turned to one of my favorite paleo/gluten-free recipe creators, Danielle Walker. She also has Inflammatory Bowel Disease and has released several cookbooks over the years. I just purchased her most recent cookbook, Healthy In A Hurry, and I’ve been making recipes with it along with some old favorites from her other cookbooks.
Some recipes that we’ve made from her new cookbook have included Kung Pao Chicken, Paleo Salsa Chicken Tacos, Pork Ragu Over Creamy Almond & Cauliflower Polenta, and Acai Bowls. All were delicious.
