Do you listen to podcasts? Over the past few months, I’ve really gotten into them. I listen to them on my runs, while doing my Sunday chores, and on my walk to the coffee shop. The new year goals mindset and my ambition to really grow my blog this year has spurred a new zest for self help podcasts. I’m learning loads about goal setting, staying motivated, and habits for lifelong health. It’s also been a nice way to fill the silence as someone who works from home and doesn’t have any coworkers (besides my cat, Prue!) In this post, I’m sharing seven of my favorite podcasts.
Although I prefer to stay away from true crime podcasts (it messes with my head too much), I like a variety of podcasts from wellness, news, comedy, and history so that is what you’ll find on this list. Drop your recommendations in the comments!
My Favorite Podcasts

Wiser Than Me with Julia Louis-Dreyfus
This podcast is a new favorite! Julia interviews women who have been successful in various industries about how to live a full and meaningful life. I feel like woman ‘of a certain age’ are often forgotten about, but they have so much to offer in terms of life experience and wisdom. I have really enjoyed every episode I’ve listened to, but definitely check out the episodes with Jane Fonda, Fran Lebowitz, and Carol Burnett.

I just discovered The Mel Robbins Podcast in December, and I haven’t missed an episode since. On her podcast, she shares practical and useful advice for changing your life for the better. I especially found her episodes released before and after the new year to be particularly helpful when setting my goals for 2024.

I just started listening to this health and wellness podcast recently, and I’m really getting into it. Jay Shetty spent several years as a monk and combines that background with his experience in the digital industry. In his podcasts, he interviews many influential people (seriously, big names from Joe Biden to Kim Kardashian to Michelle Obama) about mental health, productivity, relationships, and finding your purpose. I’m planning to dive into his archives for some episodes that seem relevant to me.

Another health and wellness podcast I recently started listening to is the Rich Roll podcast. Rich interviews experts in various wellness related fields including nutrition, aging, and spirituality. The episodes are quite long so it takes me awhile to get through an entire episode but it’s worth it. I was really moved by this episode that centered around aging and happiness.

I’ve long been a fan of Conan O’ Brien (#teamcoco) and find his comedy hilarious. On his podcast, he interviews his celebrity friends (most of them other comedians). Try this when you need a good laugh.

Here’s Where It Gets Interesting
I first started following Sharon on Instagram a few years ago. Her platform is unique in that she shares totally nonpartisan education about the government and how it operates. She gets people from both parties talking in productive ways. Her podcasts episodes vary from interviews with politicians and authors to historical focused. I especially enjoy the docuseries episodes where she does a deep dive into different topics and eras like native boarding schools and the 1970s.

The Daily by the New York Times
This is my go-to news podcast. Each episode dives into a current event by interviewing reporters and people in the community who are affected. It’s short and helps me stay informed.
