Do you have an outfit uniform that you repeat over and over again? Lately, I’ve been obsessed with this outfit combination that appears in so many of my outfit roundups these days. The combination of a button down, sweater over the shoulders, and straight leg denim is giving me classic minimalist vibes á la Lilly and Grant, one of my favorite style influencers. Keep reading for more details on my fall uniform.
My Fall Uniform

White Button Down (similar) // Sweater // Jeans (I took my smaller size) // Belt (old from Madewell; similar) // Sneakers // Bag (code ASHLEYR15) // Sunglasses
Let’s start breaking down this outfit starting with the sweater over the shoulders which is the most important element. I don’t know what took me so long to try this trend. I think I thought it was a little too ‘preppy’ for me, but personal style changes over time, I guess.
A sweater over the shoulders looks so chic and elegant and the extra layer adds interest without adding much weight or warmth. It’s perfect for this time of the year when the weather is still pretty warm during the afternoons.

The next piece of this fall uniform is a great button down. These can be tricky, but the most important factor is choosing one that is not too fitted. My favorite right now is the Relaxed Oxford from Everlane, but it’s currently backordered. This one looks really similar and is mostly stocked.

You can choose any sweater you like to pair with your button down. Any color combo works with white (black, beige, cream, taupe, etc.) I also like to wear my light blue button down with a black sweater as well. Check out that look in this outfit roundup.

As far as bottoms go, you know I love a good straight leg denim, but you could wear any style of jeans you like, even skinny jeans. This exact pair is the Everlane Way Jean, and they fit like a dream. I cut the hem as they fell at kind of an awkward length for me (not cropped, but too short for the full length style.) And for shoes, I’m wearing my favorite chic white sneakers, but I’ve also worn my chunky loafers, mules, and boots.

Would you wear this look? I’ve noticed that the more I try out different trends, the more comfortable I get with being more creative with my wardrobe. It’s all a matter of getting outside of your comfort zone.
