
Athleisure is very popular in the stay-at-home mom set and for good reason. It’s comfortable and stretchy, making it perfect for running around after your kids all day. When I head to the park with my kids (which is almost everyday) they’ll be twenty moms there with me and virtually all of them will be in athleisure. I love that our generation has decided that we can dress more casual and comfortable. In this post, I’m talking about how to wear athleisure in 2022.

I always hesitate to provide style ‘tips’ because I really believe you should wear whatever you feel good in. But if you’re looking for ways to modernize your athleisure outfits, and I’m assuming you are because you are reading this post, then I’ve got a few ideas for you!

How To Wear Athleisure in 2022
Choose The Right Length For Your Top

When choosing a top to wear with your leggings or biker shorts, keep the length either cropped or intentionally oversized. Skip those long, body skimming racerback tanks (you know the ones!) A tight top that hits at the widest part of your hips is usually not very flattering. I prefer a cropped top for my athleisure style outfits, but if you want your bottom covered, go with a top that is oversized.

Accessorize!

To make your athleisure outfit appear less like you just got done working out and more like an actual outfit, add some accessories. I love a belt bag worn over the shoulder and a baseball hat, but you can even add some jewelry as well. I prefer simple gold jewelry with my casual outfits.

Stick With Casual Sneakers

Skip those running shoes, and instead, choose a casual sneaker. We’re not going to the gym here. I just recently purchased these cool color block sneakers for fall, and I love them! You could also wear a crisp white fashion sneaker like these which are a wardrobe must have in my opinion.

Try A Matching Set

For a sporty chic look, try a trendy matching set. It makes any outfit instantly elevated. I have an all black look here, but you can really choose any color you like.

Balance Proportions

This is a general style rule, but one I wanted to call out because it’s pretty important when styling an athleisure outfit. Usually when pairing a top and a bottom you need to balance the outfit by combining a loose fitting top and tight bottoms or vice versa. For instance, here I’ve styled my tight biker shorts with a loose fitting cropped sweatshirt. Another example is pairing joggers with a more form fitting tank or t-shirt. I also love the look of a long line sports bra and leggings paired with an oversized denim jacket or cropped athletic jacket like this one.
