Lately, I’ve felt like branching out from my usual jeans and giving dresses and skirts a proper go. I do tend to wear dresses in the summer, but I’m on a mission to have some dress outfits that I can wear in the cooler months as well. For my first purchase, I chose a midi sweater dress, and, in this post, I’m sharing five ideas for styling it. I love the versatility of this dress and that it can be worn dressy or casual depending on the occasion.
I recently purchased this knit sweater dress from Amazon after seeing it on another blogger and was surprisingly impressed with the fit and quality. The material is soft, and overall, I find it to be really comfortable and easy to wear. This creamy white color also exudes that quiet luxury vibe that is ever so popular right now. It also comes in gray, black, and brown if those colors suit you better. For sizing reference, I have my true size XS, and it fits slightly relaxed through the body.
How To Style A Sweater Dress
With Brown Accessories

For the first outfit, I chose to keep it tonal with accessories and outwear in a similar color family. Pairing a chic oversized wool coat with this affordable sweater dress makes it appear much more expensive than it actually is. I added my favorite sling bag and matching brown boots to finish this look.

For my second outfit, I went the opposite direction and paired this cream knit dress with black for a contrasting look. This coat is identical to the one above, but in a different color. A black leather bag elevates the look further.
Belted With A Blazer

If you feel that a sweater dress looks too shapeless, try adding a belt at the waist to give your body some curves. You could stop there, but I added a blazer for a layering option, and finally, I paired it with some textured ballet flats for interest.

For my fellow moms out there, here is a casual styling idea for a sweater dress. You could wear any sneakers you like, but I just received these classic New Balance 574s for Christmas, and I can’t stop wearing them. For my layer, I added an oversized denim jacket. Mine is older from Madewell, but I linked a very similar option above.

And finally, I styled this dress for a dressier occasion such as a date night. This leather jacket and block heel pumps are both date night staples for me, and I think they go reall well with this knit dress.

In the spring, this sweater dress could be layered with a trench coat and flats for an easy and elegant everyday outfit.
