I am smitten with this new trend of tonal dressing. With this technique is easy to take a casual look and make it appear more chic and elevated. This look is so easy to pull off if you have a capsule style wardrobe with a base of neutral pieces. I’ve been using this trend a lot to elevate my casual everyday looks.
In this post, I’m sharing more about what tonal dressing is, some easy tips for creating your own looks, and some examples at the bottom.

What Is Tonal Dressing
Tonal dressing is pairing together pieces either in the same color or within the same color family, i.e. shades of white, brown, or even pink. It’s super on trend right now, and it’s a great way to make a casual outfit appear more polished or even to modernize a more tailored outfit, for example a suit.
Tips For Styling A Tonal Look

Stick With Neutrals
If you’re new to this trend, the perfect way to get your feet wet is to pair your neutrals together for a chic tonal look. My favorite tonal outfits involve shades of cream, white, and taupe mixed together as seen in this featured outfit. Another color palette I love for tonal looks is earth tones, like rich caramel browns and tans. If you’re into color, then definitely go for it though!
Pair Different Textures

It’s best when creating a tonal look to pair multiple textures to create a more interesting look. I particularly like pairing my white denim with a chunky knit sweater, and a leather bag or suede shoes. For spring, I would add a straw bag to a cream or white tonal outfit.
Play With Accessories

Accessories can make any outfit more playful and interesting. For a tonal look, you have several options. You could extend the tonal strategy further by picking accessories in the same color or similar color family as your other pieces. You could also do the opposite and pick accessories with a contrasting color, bright color, or even a fun pattern. Not everyone is in the ‘neutrals only’ club like me so choose colors that you love to wear.
