Today, I’m sharing some gift ideas for the little kids in your life. These gifts would fall in the 2-6 range mostly; although some could work for younger or older kids. We own and love almost all of these or similar items. As you can see, we prefer toys that are made to last and encourage creativity and pretend play. Don’t get it twisted though, we own plenty of silly plastic toys, but this here is a curated list (wink, wink)!
- Hape Cash Register: This cash register is great for the 3 and older range as they begin to learn about counting and money. Ellie likes to use this at her “restaurant.” The set comes with play money as well.
- Subscription to The Magic Playbook: We signed up for this monthly subscription when it first rolled out in October and have loved it. Every month, we download the new playbook which includes seasonal games, crafts, activities, and recipes. We especially love all the cute printables.
- Hape Wooden Dollhouse: Obviously this is a more high ticket item, but I had to include it since we’ve owned and loved this dollhouse for several years. The house comes fully furnished, but through the years, we’ve purchased or been gifted several additions including the pet set, the family car, the dining room set, and the garden set. We also purchased this dollhouse family.
- Play Dough Kit: You can order a play dough kit on Etsy, but I recently made ours using some homemade dough and some crafty things I found at Target and Michael’s. I picked up these containers from IKEA. The kids have spent hours and hours playing with their kits.
- Haba Wooden Blocks: This is another big ticket item, but will last for generations. We bought these blocks a few Christmas’s ago, and the quality is amazing. It’s been fun to watch the kids’ creations become more and more elaborate as the years have passed.
- Deep in the Forest Book: The kids love this search and find book which they ask to read over and over again. The book includes little flaps to lift and a legend on the back to identify each animal.
- Petit Collage Floor Puzzle: The kids’ got these last year for Christmas and have enjoyed them over and over again throughout the year. The pieces are large, but the puzzle is still somewhat challenging. We have the Ocean Life Friends puzzle and the Construction Site puzzle.
- High Five Magazine Subscription: Danny’s parents gifted our kids a subscription to this magazine a couple years ago, and they look forward to it every month. We keep all the copies, and they always request to read through the old ones.
- Melissa and Doug Wooden Birthday Cake: We don’t own this yet, but we plan on purchasing this toy birthday cake this Christmas. Our kids are always having pretend birthday parties, and they will definitely enjoy having this birthday cake to include in their play.
