Confession – I used to buy a lot of ‘going out’ shirts that I would wear once or twice and then never wear again. I’m not sure why I bought so many of these fancy tops, but my wardrobe did not reconcile with my actual real life. In my 30s, I’ve wised up, and now I usually only buy tops that work for both day and evening occasions. This helps keep my wardrobe versatile and streamlined. In this post, I’m showing you how I would transition this fall blouse from day to night.
When curating your wardrobe, it’s important to think about your actual lifestyle. This may be different for you, but in my current day to day life, I don’t go out to fancy restaurants and formal events all that often. I don’t need fancy tops that will only be worn once every couple months. When I’m shopping for nicer tops to wear to the occasional date night or out to an event, I choose ones that are also appropriate for daytime, too. Note that this isn’t a ‘rule’ and I do own some tops that are more fancy, but they are few.
This blouse has the most adorable floral print, smocking on the bottom half, and sheer sleeves. It fits true to size though you may want to size up if you’re busty. I’ve linked some other fall blouse options at the bottom of this post!

For a look that is totally acceptable for the office, I’ve paired this blouse with my wide leg trousers, some ankle boots, and my leather tie belt (a recent summer splurge!) These exact pants are no longer available in this colorway, but they have a rich acorn brown color and a black color now available. For all you petites, the petite option was not available when I ordered these in the spring so I had mine hemmed. However, petite and tall sizes are available now! They run large in my opinion; size down one.

To transition this top for evening, I switched up my trousers for my favorite straight leg denim, added some comfortable block heel pumps, and grabbed my black clutch (my grandmother’s!) For date night, I also love adding a swipe of red lipstick, too. This is definitely one of my go-to date night uniforms.
