In this post, I’m sharing an Everlane A-Line Denim Shorts review.
It’s April now, and I’ve been on the hunt for some denim shorts for my spring and summer wardrobe. I feel like denim shorts are one of the hardest things to shop for. They need to be the right length and cut, and every body type is so different that it just makes it super difficult to fit correctly.
For this review, I’m discussing fit, sizing for petites, color options, and sustainability.

Everlane A-Line Denim Short Review
Fit

As a mom in her late 30s and looking for more modest pieces, I really like the length of these shorts. They have a 5.5″ inseam that gives good coverage on your bottom and thighs. I have proportionally short legs compared to my torso, and I’m not a huge fan of denim shorts that have a longer length because they can make my legs look even shorter. I find the length on these to be just right for a longer length style like this. I wouldn’t want them any longer though. For reference, I’m 5’3.” Obviously, they will look shorter on someone with longer legs.
They also have an a-line cut which means they fit looser on your thighs. This was a huge plus for me since I have somewhat muscular thighs and hate when jean shorts are too tight on them. These fit perfectly loose in that area.
The rise on these denim shorts is also super high. The description on the product site doesn’t provide the actual number, but it’s probably between 11 and 12 inches. They fit me about an inch above my belly button.
Sizing

The sizing on these is a little challenging to nail down. I wish I could provide an accurate sizing recommendation for you, but I feel like these may require more research to get your individual fit just right. I took my usual Everlane denim size 24. My actual waist measurement is 26″ for reference. They do fit pretty snug around my waist, but the real hesitancy in recommending a size is related to the fit on the back. At this true size, they actually give me a tiny bit of a wedgie. You may want to consider sizing up especially if you have a long torso. The sizing recommendations in the reviews were very mixed (and I read a ton of them!) I would read the reviews of people with your same body type to get a better idea. If you’re petite like me with fairly short legs, I would start with a size up and go from there.
Material and Sustainability

These denim shorts are made with 100% organic rigid cotton denim. I’m really preferring this type of material for my denim lately. It’s the same material that my fave Agolde denim is made from (see a full review here), and what I love about this fabric is that it’s really soft and smooth but actually holds you in really nicely in the midsection. And, of course, organic fabrics are better for the environment, too.
Overall Impressions
If you’re looking for a longer style of denim shorts, I would definitely recommend these. Try out a few sizes and see which one fits your body type the best. My favorite feature is the a-line cut which is flattering on most women. I’m going to be wearing these shorts all summer long!
