I’m such a sap for a romcom. I’ll watch them on repeat and never get tired of them. Feel-good movies exist for a reason. I also can’t help but watch with a stylist’s eye, cataloguing every outfit. So I pulled some of my favorite looks from classic romcoms and recreated them with pieces you can actually shop – though honestly, you probably own most of them already. This post was so fun to put together, and now I desperately want to rewatch all of these movies this spring.
RomCom Inspired Outfits
Kate in French Kiss

I haven’t seen this movie in awhile – it deserves a rewatch! Plus, it’s set in Paris which you know is my dream location. Meg Ryan’s style in this movie is simple and elegant. In the film, she’s wearing this striped top as a shirt, and she eventually ties it around her waist. Under her top, she’s wearing a slim white tank along with light colored khakis and a plain canvas sneaker.

Rachel Green in Friends

This look comes from one of my favorite style inspirations of all time – Rachel Green from Friends. Not technically a romcom but I had to include her. This look is actually from one of my favorite episodes as well – The One With The Rumor from Season 8. Rachel’s wearing a sheer lace top over a cami and black pants. I added what I think would be a good shoe option for spring.

Anna Scott in Notting Hill

All of Julia Robert’s outfits in Notting Hill are so ’90s. For this date night look, she’s wearing a green tank under a floral jacket with jeans and a wide belt. This might be a good style of jacket to try and source vintage if you’re really into this look.
Chessy in The Parent Trap

For my day to day life, I want to dress like Chessy in The Parent Trap. Her outfits are always easy and comfortable. They need to be – she’s cooking chili and pancakes. She wears a lot of big oversized button downs and jeans. I can’t see her shoes but since she lives in California, I’m imagining her in a sturdy sandal like this. Add the low pony if you want to really nail this look.

Annie Banks in Father of the Bride

I love Father of the Bride so much – we are buying a basketball goal to put in our driveway, ha! Annie Banks is so elegant especially as a 20-something. I’m also inspired by Nina Banks style in the film as well. I thought this look with a striped button down would be perfectly chic for everyday. I can’t see her bottoms or shoes, but I’m imagining her in a pair of ’90s jeans and canvas sneakers.

Kathleen Kelly in You’ve Got Mail

You’ve Got Mail is my second favorite movie of all time (While You Were Sleeping is my first if you’re curious!) I want to be Kathleen Kelly – live in New York and own a charming little bookstore. This look is so simple but it tugs at my nostalgic heartstrings. She’s wearing a white shirt (I’ve subbed for a white tank), gray cardigan, khakis, and white sneakers. She’s added a belt as well.

Elizabeth James in The Parent Trap

As far as romcoms go, there is no one chicer than Elizabeth James in The Parent Trap. Her outfits are typically tonal and elegant although she looks just as polished when she’s at the vineyard in California in a button down and jeans.

Erica Barry in Something’s Gotta Give

I’m very inspired by the New England coastal style in Something’s Gotta Give. These ladies love an all white look. I added Erica Barry’s signature bucket hat even though it’s not included in the image. I’m imagining myself at a beach right now.
