It’s jacket season! I love fall for many reasons, but especially because I get to wear some of my favorite outerwear pieces like blazers and trench coats. Outerwear trends tend to stay somewhat similar from year to year so I feel good about investing in quality jackets that are made well. In this post, I’m rounding up eight of my most worn fall outerwear pieces including the ones I own and recommend plus more to shop at different budgets.

The Fall Outerwear Edit

The Trench Coat

The trench coat is definitely my favorite and most worn outerwear style for fall, and the category I own the most of. Some of my trenches are older and not shoppable, but my favorites are so I’ve linked them below. I find myself wearing a trench coats often because they are so versatile and instantly make an outfit look chic. I prefer mine to fit relaxed sometimes a little oversized.

Trench Coats I Own + More To Shop (items I own are marked with an asterisk):

Sézane Clyde Trench Coat in Chocolate* / Size down if between sizes (full review here)
Sézane Clyde Trench Coat in Dark Green* / Size down if between sizes (pictured above)
Sézane Scott Trench Coat in Camel* / Size up if between sizes (full review here)
Quince Comfort Stretch Long Trench Coat* / True to size (pictured here)
Everlane Cotton Long Trench Coat* / Runs big (sold out but worth mentioning if you’d like to shop it secondhand, this is a similar option)
Affordable Option: Gap Icon Trench Coat

The Leather Jacket

I call this my cool mom jacket! The one I have is from Quince and is really affordable. I love that the distressed leather makes it look kind of vintage. I typically wear it with a plain tee or sweater depending on the weather, but I also like wearing it for a cold weather date night.

Leather Jackets I Own + More To Shop (items I own are marked with an asterisk):

The Quince 100% Leather Oversized Bomber Jacket* / True to size (styling ideas here)
Aritzia Wilifred UnReal Leather Falcon Jacket
Sézane Will Jacket in Honey / I recommend sizing up in this style
Affordable Option: Uniqlo Faux Leather Coated Short Jacket

The Anorak Jacket

An anorak jacket is a type of functional jacket made for rainy weather; although, the one I own is lightweight. I love the look of a utility style jacket like this with more dressy pieces like ankle boots. I’ve linked a range of options in terms of weight and price below.

Anorak Jackets I Own + More To Shop (items I own are marked with an asterisk):

The Everlane Anorak
Sézane Hugo Parka
Boden Cropped Rain Mac
Affordable Option: Quince Waterproof Oversized Rain Jacket

The Blazer

My second most worn piece of outerwear for fall is a blazer. It’s been too hot to wear them yet, and it’s killing me! My favorite brands for blazers are Everlane and Sézane, but you can find really affordable options at stores like H&M. I find the most timeless blazers have a relaxed fit (not too slim and not too oversized.)

Blazers I Own + More To Shop (items I own are marked with an asterisk):

Everlane Oversized Blazer in Ash Brown* / True to size (pictured above)
Everlane Oversized Blazer in Black* / True to size
Sézane Chelsea Jacket in Camel Ecru Herringbone* / True to size
Sézane Christie Jacket in Ecru* / I recommend sizing up
Affordable Option: H&M Double Breasted Blazer

The Suede Jacket

This suede jacket came into my life last spring, and it was love at first sight. I wore it constantly for as long as I could until the weather got too hot. It’s truly an outfit maker. I love the 70s vibes of this camel colored one from Sézane but I’ve linked more options below. Suede jackets can be quite pricey so if you’re on a budget shop for one in a faux suede.

Suede Jackets I Own + More To Shop (items I own are marked with an asterisk):

Sézane Will Jacket in Camel Suede* / I recommend going up a size (picture above)
Quince Suede Blazer
Sézane Mia Jacket
Affordable Option: Zara Faux Suede Cropped Jacket

The Barn Jacket

I’ve posted about barn jackets a few times on the blog. First, on my fall trends post and second, in this post with tons of styling ideas. This style of jacket is very popular right so you’ll find loads of options to shop, but I’ve linked my favorite ones I’ve seen below. I love pairing mine with dressier pieces like maxi skirts and ankle boots, but you can also style them casually, too.

Barn Jackets I Own + More To Shop:

Mango Oversized Barn Jacket * / True to size for an oversized fit (pictured above)
Mango Denim Barn Jacket in Khaki* / True to size
Sézane Gabin Jacket
Alex Mill Chiltern Street Jacket in Waxed Cotton
Affordable Option: Old Navy Canvas Barn Jacket

The Mac Coat

The Mac Coat is like a cross between a raincoat and a trench coat. They are usually minimal in style and more of a mid-length. I was recently gifted this one from the brand Rue Sophie, and she’s a beauty. I recommend sizing down.

The Cropped Puffer Jacket

Depending on where you live, a cropped puffer jacket might be a good option for colder fall days. My favorite is this one from Everlane, but it’s almost sold out and a restock is questionable (bummer!). I have more options linked below. I love styling mine with ankle boots to chic it up a bit.

Everlane Puffer Bomber* / True to size (pictured above)
Quince Responsible Down Cropped Puffer Jacket in Faded Cargo* / Size up if in between sizes
