It’s jacket season! I love fall for many reasons, but especially because I get to wear some of my favorite outerwear pieces like blazers and trench coats. Outerwear trends tend to stay somewhat similar from year to year so I feel good about investing in quality jackets that are made well. In this post, I’m rounding up eight of my most worn fall outerwear pieces including the ones I own and recommend plus more to shop at different budgets.
The Fall Outerwear Edit
The Trench Coat

The trench coat is definitely my favorite and most worn outerwear style for fall, and the category I own the most of. Some of my trenches are older and not shoppable, but my favorites are so I’ve linked them below. I find myself wearing a trench coats often because they are so versatile and instantly make an outfit look chic. I prefer mine to fit relaxed sometimes a little oversized.

Affordable Option: Gap Icon Trench Coat
The Leather Jacket

I call this my cool mom jacket! The one I have is from Quince and is really affordable. I love that the distressed leather makes it look kind of vintage. I typically wear it with a plain tee or sweater depending on the weather, but I also like wearing it for a cold weather date night.

The Anorak Jacket

An anorak jacket is a type of functional jacket made for rainy weather; although, the one I own is lightweight. I love the look of a utility style jacket like this with more dressy pieces like ankle boots. I’ve linked a range of options in terms of weight and price below.

The Blazer

My second most worn piece of outerwear for fall is a blazer. It’s been too hot to wear them yet, and it’s killing me! My favorite brands for blazers are Everlane and Sézane, but you can find really affordable options at stores like H&M. I find the most timeless blazers have a relaxed fit (not too slim and not too oversized.)

The Suede Jacket

This suede jacket came into my life last spring, and it was love at first sight. I wore it constantly for as long as I could until the weather got too hot. It’s truly an outfit maker. I love the 70s vibes of this camel colored one from Sézane but I’ve linked more options below. Suede jackets can be quite pricey so if you’re on a budget shop for one in a faux suede.

The Barn Jacket

I’ve posted about barn jackets a few times on the blog. First, on my fall trends post and second, in this post with tons of styling ideas. This style of jacket is very popular right so you’ll find loads of options to shop, but I’ve linked my favorite ones I’ve seen below. I love pairing mine with dressier pieces like maxi skirts and ankle boots, but you can also style them casually, too.

The Mac Coat

The Mac Coat is like a cross between a raincoat and a trench coat. They are usually minimal in style and more of a mid-length. I was recently gifted this one from the brand Rue Sophie, and she’s a beauty. I recommend sizing down.
