Spring Capsule Wardrobe: March 2026

spring capsule wardrobe 2026, march capsule wardrobe

I’m so happy it’s March – we may still have a few cold weeks ahead, but we’ve made it through the worst of winter. Every month, I share a new capsule wardrobe here on the blog including outfit ideas using the pieces. I’ll be using the capsule the entire month to create my real life outfits which I share (almost) daily on Instagram and in weekly roundups on Substack.

March really is the trickiest month to dress for – one day it feels like winter, the next it’s spring. I put together this transitional spring capsule wardrobe with unpredictable weather in mind. I’m being a little optimistic and skipping my puffer coat (we’re heading into our first spring in Chicago, so I’m still learning what to expect). That said, I did build in plenty of outerwear: my warm wool coat, a lighter wool coat, and several spring jackets I’ve been so excited to pull back out. Honestly, I am so over heavy coats. I also swapped a couple pairs of boots for ballet flats, which are always the easiest shoes for me to style and actually wear.

For this capsule, I’m working with eight tops and tees, seven jackets and coats, three pairs of jeans, two pairs of pants, and six pairs of shoes. Be sure to scroll to the bottom of this post for outfit ideas using the pieces in this capsule – I reference these images almost every morning when I get dressed.

Spring Capsule Wardrobe: March 2026

Tops

Black Tank // This tank will be used as a layering piece – either under my jackets or button down shirts when worn open. This fits true to size for a slim fit.

Gray Tee & White Tee // These tees will also primarily be used for layering under jackets and sweaters. I took my true size XS in both these tees.

Denim Shirt // I think this denim shirt is one of the most versatile items in my wardrobe – you can wear it with denim on denim and with pants of any color. I also love wearing it with a sweater over my shoulders. It fits true to size.

Cream Cardigan // I received a gift card to Sézane for my birthday (yay!) so I picked up this new top from Sézane. It has a cropped fit, but isn’t too cropped. I sized up.

Gray Sweater // I also included this in my February capsule (it might have been the most worn item last month!) It is such a great staple for spring, too.

White Shirt // A white button down is a capsule wardrobe favorite for good reason. It can be dressed up or down and styled so many ways. This one is a cotton poplin material with a very oversized fit. I took my true size but size down if you want it to fit closer to the body.

Brown Sweater // I own this cotton oversized sweater in a few colors, but the brown is new to me! I took my true size.

Outerwear

Suede Jacket // This suede jacket is an outfit maker, truly. I wear it simply with a tee underneath to let it shine. I recommend sizing up one – it runs small in the shoulders.

Leather Jacket // This is the same style as the suede jacket above but in leather. When something works well, don’t question it! See this post for even more styling ideas. I also recommend sizing up in this one, too.

Denim Jacket // I rediscovered this jacket from the sustainable brand, Industry of All Nations. It’s a unique denim jacket made from recycled fibers and without any dyes – amazing. Plus the fit is relaxed and cool.

Black Blazer // A capsule wardrobe workhorse – I always wear a blazer on days I want to get things done. You can dress it up with boots or flats or dress it down with sneakers. This one fits true to size for a relaxed fit.

Brown Wool Coat // This is my heaviest coat so I’ll save this for those cold days or even layer it over my lighter jackets. I took my true size in this.

Black Wool Coat // This is a more lightweight wool coat, but you can layer it over sweaters or even another jacket to make it work for chilly days. I would say it works best for 40+ degree weather. It fits very oversized but I took my true size.

Green Trench Coat // One of my favorite things in my closet, this green trench coat from Sézane is absolutely worth the price. The quality and fit are spot on. I took my smaller size.

Bottoms

Medium Wash Straight Jeans (more here) // A classic straight leg high waisted jean. I recommend staying true to size for a more relaxed fit and sizing down for a regular fit. These are 100% cotton denim and will relax with wear.

Black Wide Leg Denim // These jeans from Quince are so comfortable since they are a stretch denim. I like having at least one pair of comfy jeans in my capsule wardrobe for weekends or days when I feel bloated.

Light Wash Straight Jeans // This pair of jeans from Agolde has a more relaxed fit (I sized down one). They are a mid-rise but sit right about my belly button so it works well for my short legs.

Ecru Barrel Pants // I just bought these pants for the spring, and they are so good! They have a light barrel leg that is fairly subtle. Plus, they come in multiple inseam options – I got the petite.

Tan Barrel Pants // I’ve been shopping around for a pair of pants in this color for awhile now, and I took a risk with these more affordable ones. I bought them kind of last minute so they haven’t arrived yet, but I’m hoping they work out. They also come in multiple inseams but I took the regular because I find Gap petite inseams to be too short.

Shoes

Python Ballet Flats // These leather ballet flats have a subtle python print in shades of brown and rust. They add a little interest without overwhelming the look. Be sure to check the size chart – Sézane footwear sizing is a bit weird.

Sneakers // For casual days and weekends, these Sambas are just an easy shoe to throw on and go. I love styling them with my blazer and trench coat.

Brown Boots // I included these suede brown boots in my last few capsules, and they’ve gotten a ton of wear. The suede has limited sizing, but they are more well stocked in the brown leather version.

Brown Loafers // These brown loafers are pricey but the craftsmanship is beautiful. They have a croc-embossed texture, and this medium brown color is really versatile. STITCHANDSALT10 gets you 10% off. Here’s a more affordable option.

Black Boots // Keeping my boots in my capsule wardrobe for those cold days in March. These boots are great if you commute by foot or walk a lot in your day to day life. They have support in all the right places.

Black Woven Ballet Flats // These leather ballet flats have a beautiful woven texture and are really comfortable right out of the box. I purchased them a couple years back, and they are still a closet favorite. STITCHANDSALT10 for 10% off.

Accessories

Here are the accessories I’ll be adding to these looks: similar silver hoops, silver croissant hoops, gold croissant hoops, watch, gold pendant necklace, similar paperclip chain necklace, red pendant necklace, brown belt, black belt, brown frame sunglasses, black frame sunglasses, black tote bag, brown vegan suede bag, brown woven leather bag.
