As a person who is very into self improvement and growth, I’ve read many self help books over the years. Some have been duds for me (like this very popular one), but a few have really stood out and changed the way I live my life. These life-changing self help books are well written with practical advice and tips that are science based and easy to implement. This book list includes a few different topics like health, habits, parenting, relationships, and entrepreneurship. I found each of these books to be incredibly insightful and thoughtfully written.
At the bottom of this post, I included more of my book recommendations if you’re looking for your next great read.
Also, I didn’t include it in this list, but I recommend this 5 Minute Journal for self reflection and gratitude. I hope you find something here that speaks to you and improves your life as well.
My Favorite Self Help Books
This book is a game changer for establishing good habits. In a nutshell, the book makes a case for incremental changes over time rather than big changes all at once. I read this several years ago, and I still use his advice to this day.
Outlive: The Science & Art Of Longevity by Peter Attia, MD
I read this book last year, and it changed the way I think about health. The author goes into detail (lots of detail; the book is like 700 pages) about what really matters when it comes to living a long and healthy life. Beware, it’s a bit morbid at times so read it when you’re in a good state of mind.
The Let Them Theory by Mel Robbins
This was my most recent self help read, and the book that inspired this post. It has totally shifted my mindset about my relationships and my business. I can’t recommend it enough! I am also an avid listener of her podcast which you should definitely check out if you haven’t already.
Good Inside By Dr. Becky Kennedy
This book is more about parenting than self help, but it was so helpful I wanted to include it here. Dr. Becky is the parent I aspire to be. She gives practical advice for helping kids regulate their emotions and how to best support them. If you’re a parent, please read this book.
This book is one long pep talk, and I found it to be so motivating. Plus, the author has a very witty and sharp writing style that makes it very enjoyable to read. She talks a lot about using manifestation as a tool to achieving your goals. This book would be very helpful for those of you who own a business or are self employed like me.
The 5 Love Languages: The Secret To Love That Lasts by Gary Chapman
I can’t write this post without including this book. It is so insightful when it comes to relationships. When you learn what you and your partners love languages are, you begin to understand their needs a bit better. It definitely changed Danny and I’s relationship for the better.
