Over the past couple years. I’ve amassed a collection of sweaters, in part because I’m a style blogger. A sweater paired with jeans and ankle boots is my go-to look for fall and winter so I feel this is justified (at least that’s what I’m telling myself!) In this post, I’m rounding up all my favorite sweaters plus giving you a few tips for styling them.

When creating a functional wardrobe, you’ll want to make sure you have sweaters in a range of colors and shaes. My must haves are gray, black, cream, and beige. I also like to have a variety of styles from crewneck, turtleneck, mockneck, cardigan sweaters, or polo or half zips. Having a good mix will make putting together outfits easier and lend more variety to your wardrobe. That being said, you definitely don’t need as many as I have unless you want to and have the budget.

Make Sure Your Proportions Are Balanced

Unless you are just really into that all over baggy look, you’ll want to make sure the proportions of your outfit are balanced when wearing a sweater. For example, if you are wearing an oversized sweater on top, make sure your bottoms are slim cut. The pair I’m wearing in the photos here are perfect for more oversized sweaters. They fit slim through the waist and thighs but have a straight leg which fits nicely with boots as well. If you’re wearing a looser bottom like wide leg or trousers, choose a more fitted sweater.

Choose Natural Fabrics

I’m not perfect with this, but when possible, choose sweaters made with natural fibers like wool, alpaca, cotton, or cashmere. Sweaters made from these fabrics will look nicer and last longer. I know this isn’t always in everyone’s budget, but I’ve had to donate several cheap sweaters that totally lost their shape or pilled after two wears. I hate wasting money like that. Note that I’m very sensitive to natural fabrics, but all the sweaters I’m sharing in this post don’t bother me.

Be Intentional About The Tuck

Depending on the shape of the sweater you’re wearing, you may choose to define your waist by tucking it in, either with a french tuck (just tucking the front of the sweater) or a full tuck. If you’re wearing an oversized sweater with slim cut straight leg jeans, skinny jeans or leggings, you can leave your sweater untucked. If you’re wearing more of a wide leg or true straight leg bottom, it’s best to tuck your sweater in. You may have tried tucking in a bulky sweater and ended up with a huge bulge around your waistline. I’ve recently starting using the Tucky Belt that allows you to tuck your sweater under without tucking it in to your pants. It’s a game changer!

My Favorite Sweaters

Below I’m rounding up all my favorite sweaters. I own all of these and would recommend them. I also own two striped sweaters from Zara (see one here and one here), but I can’t link them below. If you’re on the hunt for a striped sweater, check out this one and this one. These are very similar to mine. I’m happy to answer any sizing questions in the comments!
