My Spring Wardrobe Essentials 2026

In this post, I’m sharing my spring wardrobe essentials for 2026. If I was starting from wardrobe zero, these are the pieces I would purchase first. Some of these may not be ‘classic’, but they are certainly versatile, a requirement for most things that enter my closet. These are the pieces I turn to most in the spring when I’m putting together my outfits. You can mix and match all of these to create tons of different looks, too.

My Spring Wardrobe Essentials for 2026

Gray Cashmere Sweater

The most worn sweater in my closet is this gray cashmere sweater (by a landslide!) It’s got the best drapey fit which makes it easy to wear tucked or untucked. It’s more of a lightweight cashmere so it wears nicely into spring. Plus, this light gray color goes with EVERYTHING. I took my true size XS.

Medium Wash Straight Leg Denim

medium wash straight leg denim

These are the unicorn of denim! I find straight leg denim to be the most versatile for my capsule wardrobe. The cropped length pairs with all different shoe styles, and the medium wash can be dressed up for a casual office or down for the weekend. This pair is a high rise but not uncomfortably so. If you prefer a mid-rise, this style in the same brand is another favorite and has a relaxed fit which reads a bit more casual (I recommend sizing down).

Trench Coat

This trench coat from Sézane is my favorite spring jacket. It has a simple design – no vents, buttons or belts – which makes it feel less fussy. Mine is green with a plaid lining, but the brand has several options in different color/print combinations. In my opinion, it’s absolutely worth the higher price point! I plan to wear this trench coat for years and years. I recommend taking your smaller size (I have the 0 for reference). For a more affordable option, I also own this one from Quince, and it’s really great quality for the price! It fits true to size.

Long White Skirt

If you had asked me last year, I would never had told you a long white skirt is one of my spring closet essentials, but here we are. Once the weather warmed up enough to wear it, I wore my white skirt so much last spring and fall. I just got this one in from Quince as part of a collaboration, and I’m so impressed – I plan to include it in my next capsule wardrobe. It’s fully lined with an elasticized waist. I’ll wear it with sweaters and button downs in the spring and with tanks and tees in the summer.

White Tee

option one (I go up 2 sizes) / option two / option three (I go up one size)

A plain white tee is the most worn piece of clothing in my closet by far – I wear it several times a week. It’s a foundational piece you need for layering under blazers, jackets, and cardigans, but I also like wearing it on its own with jeans and a pendant necklace (this would be my daily uniform if I had to pick one outfit to wear forever!) My favorites are this one (I go up 2 sizes), this one, and this one (I go up one size). Note that white tees need to be replaced every so often so they stay looking fresh and clean.

Textured Ballet Flats

I love classic style, but I think investing in some interesting footwear is the best way to take your classic looks and make them fun and personal. A textured shoe like this whether in mesh or woven material, animal print, suede or any myriad of options available to shop right now, does so much for a basic look. These python embossed ones from Sézane are a favorite of mine from spring, summer, and into fall.

Barrel Leg Pants

This spring wardrobe essential may surprise you, but hear me out. A barrel shape like this whether subtle or more exaggerated gives your look a more modern proportion that looks cool and interesting. Of course, you could choose a classic straight leg pant as well, but a subtle barrel leg style like this is a good option to try, too. Barrel leg pants went from trend (I was horrified at first!) to staple over the past five years, and I don’t see them going anywhere.

Oversized White Button Down

My oversized white button down is probably the most versatile top in my closet. I wear it so many ways – a few buttons undone at the top and bottom like this, tucked in with an open neckline, and completely unbuttoned with a tank underneath like a light jacket. I like rolling my sleeves, too – it looks more effortless and less stuffy.

Suede Loafers

exact pair / similar / similar

Sometimes leather loafers can feel a little too formal for me, but, a suede loafer on the other hand, reads more casual and work well for my work-from-home life. Bonus – I find them to be way more comfortable, too! They also add some texture to my outfits which you know is the secret sauce of good style. My pair is from Bared Footwear and has limited sizing, but this pair and this pair look very similar.

Leather Jacket

I love adding some edge to my classic outfits with a cool leather bomber jacket like this. This one is from Quince and super affordable as far as leather goes. It also has this cool distressed texture which makes it look vintage (you could also totally shop a vintage one too if you like the hunt!) I have my true size, and it has an oversized fit.

Cardigan Sweater

cardigan

A cropped cardigan sweater that falls somewhere between your waist and hips is so chic (it has Parisian vibes which you know I LOVE). Whether you go with a more relaxed or slim fit is up to you, but I think tone on tone buttons (when the buttons match the sweater) make the cardigan look more elevated. Mine is from Reformation and the quality is excellent. Quince just released a similar style at a more affordable price point as well.

Striped Cotton Sweater

striped sweater

Stripes are a quintessential spring pattern, and one I love wearing this time of year in the form a simple cotton sweater. This one is from Quince and comes in a few different color combinations – I also own the beige/ivory one. This sweater comes in and out of stock often so just keep checking for your preferred color and size. I took my true size.
