It’s been a hot minute since I’ve shared my skincare routine. Since it’s changed quite a bit since I originally posted it last year, I wanted to show you my updated summer skincare routine. I try to keep my routine pretty simple and under 10 minutes, but sometimes I’ll add in a face mask (usually 2-3 times per week). I also have shared a few new skincare and beauty finds in my ‘Three New Beauty Products I’m Loving This Month’ series. Check out those posts here.
My skincare products range in price, but you can trust that if a product is expensive that it WORKS. If I can find a cheaper alternative that is just as effective, I will use it.
A quick disclaimer that I am not a skincare expert, and these particular products are ones I’ve found that work best for my skin.
Morning Skincare Routine
Step One: Cleanse with La Roche-Posey Hydrating Gentle Face Cleanser. This stuff is super gentle. It doesn’t foam up or get soapy, and it won’t remove eye makeup, but I like that it doesn’t strip my skin of it’s natural oils. Some cleansers can leave your skin feeling dry and this one doesn’t at all.
Step Two: Apply Thayers Facial Toner with a cotton pad. This stuff gets your skin squeaky clean by removing build up, and allows your skincare products that follow to be more easily absorbed. It’s a more recent addition to my skincare routine, and now I can’t go without it.
Step Three: Naturium Quadruple Hyaluronic Acid Serum 5%. I was previously using the hyaluronic acid from The Ordinary, but I found this one to be more hydrating. I buy it at Target.
Step Four: Versed Stroke Of Brilliance Brightening Serum: I love this stuff. I’ve been using it for over a year, and I can really tell a difference in the brightness of my skin after using it.
Step Five: Kiehl’s Ultra Facial Cream mixed with Isle of Paradise Self Tanning Drops: I like how this moisturizer is thick and nourishing, but absorbs well into the skin to be used under makeup. I put a bit of moisturizer in the palm of my hand, add a few tanning drops, mix it with my finger, then apply all over my face and neck. The tanning drops just give your skin a nice glow.
Step Six: Biossance Squalane + Marine Algae Eye Cream: This stuff is pricey, but it works well. It goes on super creamy and instantly smooths the fine lines around my eyes.
Step Seven: Supergoop Unseen Sunscreen: Of course, sunscreen is a must, especially this time of year. This sunscreen goes on clear and absorbs well for use under makeup. I’ve also heard good things about the Supergoop Glow Screen as well which includes a primer.
Evening Skincare Routine
Step One: Remove makeup with Bioderma Micellar Water: This stuff works to remove all my makeup plus all the dirt and grime from the day.
Step Two: Cleanse with La Roche-Posey Hydrating Gentle Face Cleanser.
Step Three: Naturium Glycolic Acid Resurfacing Gel 10%: I don’t use this product every night, but maybe 3 times a week. It’s an acid exfoliator that helps improve the appearance of skin including skin tone and texture. I was using The Ordinary Glycolic Acid but grabbed this one to try out. Does it work better? Maybe a bit, but the one from The Ordinary is quite a bit cheaper so after I finish this bottle, I’ll probably go back to using it.
Step Four: The Ordinary Buffet Serum: This is a peptide based anti-aging serum that works to improve the look of fine lines and wrinkles. I’ve been using it for 2 years and really like the results. A few nights a week, after applying this serum, I use my facial roller to work the product in and also to increase lymphatic drainage.
Step Five: Olay Regenerist Retinol 24 Max Night Moisturizer: This product is good, and a lot more affordable than other similar products on the market. It contains retinol which helps to combat the signs of aging. Make sure to avoid the skin on your neck when applying this as it can be irritating.
Step Six: Biossance Squalane + Marine Algae Eye Cream
Step Seven: Smith’s Eucalyptus Balm: As the last step in my skincare routine, I like to apply a thick lip balm.
There is my updated summer skincare routine. If you have any product recommendations, please leave them in the comments. I’m always looking for new products to try out!
