Anybody else go into hibernation in the winter? I can’t be bothered with date nights when it’s cold out, but the second spring shows up, I’m suddenly ready to start showing my face around town again.
My husband and I try to get out once a month for date night, usually dinner and a show. Our last date night was Mediterranean food + a comedy club, and honestly… highly recommend!
And when it comes to dressing for date night, I love it. It’s one of the rare chances to pull out the dressier pieces that mostly sit in my closet waiting for their moment. So in this post, I’m sharing a handful of spring date night outfits – some casual, some a little more fancy.
I put these looks together for mild spring weather, but you can always layer on a lightweight wool coat or swap sandals for heeled boots if it’s still chilly.
You can honestly take almost any top + bottom combo and make it date-night ready. Here are a few quick tips:
Don’t forget your hair. Nothing feels chicer to me than a sleek bun. If my outfit is really dressy, I’ll sometimes do my hair a little more undone for contrast. It adds that “effortless” tension that makes the whole look more interesting. If my outfit is more casual, and I want to elevate it, that’s when I’ll do the sleek bun.
Add bold jewelry. Chunky cuff bracelets, drop earrings, a cute hair accessory…go wild.
Go for a bold lip. I usually reach for red, but choose whatever shade flatters your skin tone.
Swap to a small bag. Little bags are for nights out. Beaded, classic black, metallic – look for texture, pattern, and embellishments.
Add a heel (if you want). For something super casual like a movie or laid-back dinner, I’ll wear a flat. But if I’m feeling even a little fancy (which I often do, since I don’t get many chances to dress up), I’ll go for a heel, usually a kitten heel or block heel because they’re actually walkable.

For a casual day date, or even dinner out with family, a pretty blouse and jeans is always an easy go-to. A nice pair of flats does the trick and are comfortable to walk in. Add a little extra jewelry and a small bag (I just discovered this one and I’m obsessed!).

More often than not, this is the kind of look you’ll find me in for date night: a simple tank, black blazer, great jeans, and kitten heels. Since the outfit is pretty streamlined, I like to add a little texture with my bag and go for chunky earrings to make it feel more “done.”
One thing I’ve learned is that a blazer in a drapier fabric like crepe (usually with some viscose in the blend) is totally worth it. More structured blazers can sometimes lean a little too polished/corporate for date night. Mine is an older Mango one, but I’m linking a similar option below.

Calling all millennials: another go-to date night formula –a “going out” top + jeans. The top changes all the time depending on the vibe: a bodysuit, a silk tank, or something off-the-shoulder like this (I linked a few options below!).
I like pairing it with a full-length jean and heels to elongate my legs. I have this pair from Everlane, but this pair from Reformation also gets rave reviews – and short girls, take note: they do free hemming! In my opinion, black jeans feel dressier than blue, so they’re usually my first choice for date night. I finished the look with a few silver accessories.

This on-trend date night look features a sheer top with a lace bralette underneath, trousers (you could totally sub in jeans, too), and heeled sandals. I love sheer tops because they feel sexy without being too revealing. This bralette is really cute, but you can also just wear your nicest bra underneath and call it a day.

This date night look is a fun mix of structure and drape: a tailored vest top with silky bottoms. I kept the base pretty monochrome and added black accessories to give it a little edge. For cooler weather, a matching blazer layered over the vest would be the perfect finishing touch.

Now we’re getting a little fancy. These last two looks would be perfect for a fine dining date or even an event like a wedding.
I highly recommend keeping a black slip dress in your closet as a go-to “nice dress” for anything that calls for it. I’d try a few styles from different brands to find the one that fits you best (I linked a bunch of options below at different price points). I added a blazer on top for warmth and a little extra coverage, then finished it off with kitten heels and a textured bag to break up all the black.

I love the idea of wearing a full suit instead of a dress for a fancy event or date night – it’s so chic. You’ll definitely want one in a drapey crepe fabric with a little flow and movement. Try wearing it with nothing but a lace bra underneath to make it feel a bit sexier (or swap in a silk tank if you prefer).
If you go the bra route, I recommend using fashion tape to keep everything in place. And I’d absolutely go big with the accessories here – those finishing touches are what make the outfit feel more evening than office.
