Danny (following my Mother’s Day Gift Guide, LOL) gifted me the Olive and June Manicure Kit for Mother’s Day, and in this post, I’m going to share my review of the products. I will offer a disclaimer first in that I am in no way an expert manicurist or anything of the sort, as you’ll probably see from my somewhat sloppy polish application. I’m just a stay-at-home mom who likes to have her nails done and does not have the time or the budget for professional manicures.
I have been eyeing Olive and June products for at least a year now. I’ve seen their products used by so many others bloggers and influencers all with glowing reviews. I like to paint my nails once per week usually on the weekends. I have been using the Essie Gel Couture Polish for many years, and I still stand by that product for long lasting at-home manicures and pedicures.
However, I wanted to try the Olive and June Manicure Kit because it comes with everything you need for the entire manicure process, including a poppy which I’ll explain later.
The Manicure Kit comes with the following items: polish (you can choose 1 or 6), nail polish remover, a buffer, nail clipper, nail file, top coat, a clean up brush, and cuticle serum.
I would first watch this video to learn how to use all the tools and in what order. It includes tips for how to make sure your mani lasts as long as possible.
Things I Love About The Olive and June Manicure Kit
The variety of nail polish shades is extensive, and they have tons of neutral options which I prefer and aren’t always available when I’m browsing in a store. They also have tons of color options if that’s your thing, too.
The poppy is also a game changer when it comes to polish application. You can purchase the poppy separately at Target and attach it to most nail polish bottles by pulling off the over cap and sticking it on the inside cap. I had no idea this was actually a thing until I received this kit. The poppy gives your hand more stability and makes it easier to apply the nail polish evenly especially when using your non-dominant hand.
Any Complaints?
The only complaint I have with the Olive and June polish system (and it’s not really their fault at all) is that since the polish is just a regular old nail polish and not a gel like I’m used to, you are going to be dealing with a few chips here and there after a few days. When I paint my nails using this polish and their top coat, the polish usually stays on for about 4 days without chipping. You can extend the life of your polish by applying a layer of top coat every few days. I’ll admit I’ve tried to implement this tip, but I haven’t been able to get in the habit.
I would also mention here that I had a little trouble getting my cuticle oil to come out of the applicator. The directions say to twist the end till it clicks two to three times, but I swear I had to click mine at least 20 times before anything came out. I thought the applicator was broken the first few times I tried to use it. For this reason, I actually can’t speak to the effectiveness of the cuticle serum because I’ve only used it once.
Would I Recommend The Olive and June Manicure Kit?
Absolutely! Getting the kit was such a treat. I love having all the different nail polish options to choose from, and the polish dries really smooth. They also sell a pedicure kit as well as The Complete System which includes both the manicure and pedicure kit products. You can also purchase just the nail polishes separately as well.
