Barn jackets came on the scene in a BIG way last fall, and they are still going strong. This is one of those trends that may stick around for a few years the way barrel jeans have. Whether you’ve purchased one of the ones I own (this one and this one), or you have a different one hanging in your closet (or maybe you found one vintage!), this post will help you style it for fall. Keep scrolling; I’m sharing nine outfit ideas with a barn jacket!
Although a barn jacket/work jacket/canvas jacket comes across as casual, I really love wearing it with my dressier clothes like a button down shirt or a white poplin skirt. The juxtaposition of the dressy and casual pieces makes the outfit more interesting and unexpected. Of course, you can also style it with sneakers. I’ve got a range of outfit ideas below!

Nine Barn Jacket Outfits For Fall
With A Hoodie & Sneakers

We are starting off with a casual outfit with a hoodie, jeans, and sneakers. This easy, comfortable, and warm outfit for fall is perfect for a laid back fall weekend. I love the way the hoodie pokes out of the top of the jacket.
With A Plaid Shirt & Flat Boot

You know what this look would be perfect for? Getting our Christmas tree! But I’m getting ahead of myself, lol. This barn jacket look with a plaid shirt (this exact color is sold out), straight jeans, and flat boots feels a little rugged and outdoorsy. It would also work for a fall fest, pumpkin patch, or bonfire situation. Okay, I’m done now.
With A Cable Knit Sweater & Ankle Boots

As a 90s romcom aficionado, I’m all about the cable knits this fall, and I think it pairs so well with a barn jacket. This is one of my favorite looks, and I’ll definitely be wearing it the minute the weather allows it.
With A White Button Down & Ballet Flats

Another favorite outfit, this casual chic look pairs a barn jacket with more polished pieces like a white button down and ballet flats. It’s simple yet chic.
With A Cardigan & Poplin Skirt

Don’t pack away that white poplin skirt just yet! I love how the addition of the barn jacket adds a bit of masculinity and casualness to this otherwise very soft and feminine outfit.
With White Jeans & A Sweater

You may be tempted to pair your barn jacket with darker fall colors, but I also really like how it pops against white. It’s a bit unexpected for a fall outfit. I paired this with a gray sweater because I love how gray looks with white, but you could also try a navy, cream, or brown sweater, too.
With A Button Down & Trousers

I’m not sure how much I would wear this look in my real life, but I wanted to show you how this jacket could work with an office look. The barn jacket makes the look a bit less corporate. Try replacing the barn jacket in any outfit you’d wear with a blazer!
With Denim On Denim

Denim on denim is still going strong (did it ever go out of style really?) I love this look paired with brown accessories for a more western vibe.
Layered Over An All Black Outfit

This is a common look you’ll see all over Pinterest (I know, I looked!) It’s basic but easy and cool. I’m wearing a plain black tee, black barrel jeans, and black slingback flats.
