My Mexico Packing List

This week I’m tagging along with my sister on her work trip to the Riviera Maya in Mexico. We plan to spend our days lounging by the pool with a frozen drink in our hands. Sounds dreamy.

In this post, I’m sharing my Mexico packing list. Know that I tend to pack more than I need so I’ve got plenty of options (it’s just my personality, okay.) With the pieces listed here I can make quite a few different outfits. As with all beach or resort vacations, my daytime plans including lounging by the pool so I packed more casual daytime clothes like swimsuits, breezy shorts, and buttons downs to use as coverups. In the evenings, we plan to eat at the a la carte restaurants at the resort and have a drink afterwards. For those occasions, I’ve packed some skirts and dresses. We don’t have any plans to do more active excursions besides casual trips to the gym for which I’ve packed some workout clothes. If you’re planning a trip to Mexico and plan to visit the ruins or go hiking, you’ll want to pack more technical gear for that.

What I Packed For Mexico

I packed eight tops, six bottoms, four dresses, two swimsuits, and a handful of accessories. I always like to stick to a color palette so the pieces can be mixed and matched easily. This time I went with black, white (and off white) as well as olive green.

Tops

My button down shirts will be used as coverups at the pool, and the nicer tops I’ll pair with a skirt or pants for dinner and drinks in the evening. I packed pieces in breathable fabrics like cotton and linen since the weather in Mexico in July is very hot and humid. There is a nice breeze off the water however, so the heat doesn’t feel stifling.

Bottoms

For bottoms, I’ve packed two pairs of linen pants, two cotton maxi skirts (one in black and one in white) and two pairs of shorts. I’ll wear the pants and skirts for dinners mostly and the shorts for daytime.

Dresses

I brought along four dresses in total. I’ll mostly wear these for dinner’s out, but the cream maxi dress is a bit more casual and better for daytime. I recently purchased this black embroidered mini dress from Gap (I added it on to an order I was placing for my kids, oops), and it’s a fun little dress for vacation.

Shoes

As I mentioned, we aren’t doing any active excursions off the resort so I only brought along sandals for this trip. The flats will be for daytime and the kitten heels for the evening.

Swimsuits

For variety sake, I like to bring along a one piece swimsuit and a two piece swimsuit on beach vacations since I’ll be wearing one everyday. If you saw my summer wishlist, you know this two piece from Hunza G was one I had been eyeing for my wardrobe. It’s a splurge for sure, but the quality is really nice, and I love the fit.

Accessories

I keep my accessories fairly minimal for trips for simplicity sake. I packed a few pieces of jewelry, a little scarf to tie around my bag or my wrist, two woven bags, and a couple pairs of sunglasses.

I’ll be sharing all my looks in my LTK shop if you’d like to see the outfits I create with these pieces.
