You know how people are always saying “Buy a slip dress! They are so versatile!” (guilty!) Well, I just recently purchased a black slip dress, and I wanted to see if that was true. I spent an afternoon this week playing dress up in my closet while attempting to see just how many outfits I could create with my new slip dress. Verdict: eight outfits! And I really love every look. In this post, I’m sharing eight ways to style a slip dress for spring and summer.
This exact slip dress is the Layton Midi Slip Dress from Madewell. It has a v-neckline and spaghetti straps that crisscross in the back. I took my normal dress size for Madewell (size 0) which is a size below my normal size. It is pretty form fitting so if you’re curvy, you may consider sizing up.

This is a spring and summer date night look. The strappy sandals make it more feminine and sexy while the woven bag adds some texture (the secret to creating interesting warm weather outfits!) These exact sandals are from Target last year. I tried to find a similar pair, and this one was the closest; however, I don’t love straps that go around my ankles since they tend to make my legs look shorter. If I were purchasing a new pair (and I may have to, Target footwear tends to only last one season for me) I would be purchasing these.

I love the juxtaposition of the casual, masculine bomber jacket with the feminine slip dress. Bomber jackets are really on trend right now, and mine has been my go-to jacket for this in between weather we are having.

I wasn’t sure about layering under a slip dress, but I’m sold. I love this look! The striped tee adds some interest, but I also tried a plain white tee in the same style, and that worked, too. I paired this with some casual plastic Birkenstocks.

Here is the most casual look of the bunch. To achieve this cropped sweatshirt look, I used my Tucky belt which works beautifully, but you could also just use a regular belt. This would also work with a graphic tee as well.

I definitely had this outfit in mind when I purchased this slip dress. I’m always pairing a blazer with Converse high tops, but instead of my go-to jeans, the slip dress adds some femininity and is a nice change!
