Do you listen to podcasts? Over the past few years, I’ve really gotten into them. I listen to them on my runs, while doing my Sunday chores, and on my walks with our dog, Bea. I listen to a variety based on my mood and what I’m looking for. I have ones when I need a good laugh, when I’m in a self improvement mindset, or when I’m looking to learn something new. It’s also been a nice way to fill the silence as someone who works from home and doesn’t have any coworkers (besides my cat, Prue!) In this post, I’m sharing seven of my favorite podcasts that I recommend.
My Favorite Podcasts

Good Hang with Amy Poehler
As a Parks & Rec lover, this podcast was like a dream come true. Not only is Amy Poehler hilarious, she’s also down to earth. Her podcast is just what it’s called – a good hang. It’s just two funny people having a conversation. She also often brings on costars from Parks and Rec, and those episodes are my favorite. She’s also recently interviewed Ina Garten!

Wiser Than Me with Julia Louis-Dreyfus
This podcast is a new favorite! Julia interviews women who have been successful in various industries about how to live a full and meaningful life. I feel like woman ‘of a certain age’ are often forgotten about, but they have so much to offer in terms of life experience and wisdom. I have really enjoyed every episode I’ve listened to, but definitely check out the episodes with Jane Fonda, Fran Lebowitz, and Carol Burnett.

My favorite self improvement podcast, I rarely miss an episode of The Mel Robbins podcast. Mel shares practical and useful advice for improving your life in the areas of health, career, and relationships. She brings on experts that give their science backed advice. She also wrote The Let Them Theory which I read and found very insightful.

I’ve been a longtime fan of Conan O’ Brien (#teamcoco) and find his comedy hilarious. On his podcast, he interviews his celebrity friends (most of them are other comedians). Listen when you need a good laugh.

I first started following Sharon on Instagram a few years ago. Her platform is unique in that she shares totally nonpartisan news and education about the government and how it operates. She gets people from both parties talking in productive ways. Her podcasts episodes vary from interviews with politicians and authors to historical topics. I especially enjoy the docuseries episodes where she does a deep dive into different events and eras like native boarding schools and the 1970s.

The Daily by the New York Times
This is my go-to news podcast. Each episode dives into a current event by interviewing reporters and people in the community who are affected. It’s short and helps me stay informed.

This one’s a bit niche, but if you have ‘learning a foreign language’ on your list this year, this is a great resource. This podcast is great for learning French pronunciation (something I think Duolingo and Babble struggle with.) I’ve been listening while getting ready in the mornings, and I’ve actually learned quite a bit.
