Over the last couple years, I’ve made it a priority to invest in high quality, timeless pieces for my wardrobe. For that reason, I now own several clothing items that can be worn year and year, season after season. During the warmer months, I tuck my fall and winter pieces away in bins or on hangers in the back of my closet. At the end of the summer, I relish pulling these items out again. It’s like having a brand new wardrobe.

You’ll find that many pieces are from the same few brands, Sézane being the most prevelant here on this list. In my opinion, the quality of their garments is truly unmatched, and their timeless styles last for years in my wardrobe.

Every item on this list, I stand behind in terms of fit and quality. I hope you’ll find a few new pieces for your fall wardrobe that become favorites for you as well.

Fall Pieces From My Closet

Sézane Léontine Jumper

This casual cotton sweater is my most worn piece of Sézane knitwear. The cotton fabric is not itchy like wool sweaters, and the fabric has this beautiful drape that is very difficult to achieve in a sweater. I recommend staying true to size for a relaxed fit.

$125 on sézane

Sézane Max Shirt

This is the perfect oversized button down. I own the Max Shirt in this deep blue color pictured above as well as the white. I love styling this with straight leg jeans and ankle boots in the fall. It runs quite large; I recommend sizing down.

$125 on sézane

Sézane Tomboy Shirt

Another button down style from Sézane I find myself wearing often, the Tomboy shirt is capsule wardrobe staple. Compared to the Max Shirt, the Tomboy shirt has a classic, slim fit. This style is well suited to the office or worn casually untucked on the weekends. It runs small; I recommend sizing up one or possibly two sizes.

$110 on sézane

Levi’s Ribcage
Straight Ankle Jeans

You can’t go wrong with this classic Levi’s denim style. These jeans have a super high rise and a classic straight leg. This style and the 501 Original Cropped are my favorite Levi’s styles. This brand tends to run small in my opinion so size up if you’re in between sizes.

$98 on shopbop

Everlane Way High Jean

These jeans have a classic straight leg fit with a high waist. These jeans pair really nicely with ankle boots in the fall and winter. Made of 98% cotton and 2% elastane, they are rigid with just a bit of stretch. I own several washes including the mid-blue shown here, the vintage indigo, and ecru.

$118 on everlane

Frēda Salvador Elba
Penny Loafer

Loafers are a timeless staple for your fall wardrobe. This pair has the traditional ‘penny’ coin in the little slot on the leather strap on top (it is removable, too.) These are sustainably made by artisans in a family factory in El Salvador. They fit true to size and do require some break in time. STITCHANDSALT15 for 15% off.

$395 on frēda salvador

Sézane Scott Trench Coat

You can definitely find trench coats for less, but I guarantee they will be nowhere near the quality of this one. This trench has a classic fit with a tie belt, button tab shoulders, and inner lining. It is made of a water repellant material, but I wouldn’t wear this in a downpour, at least not without an umbrella. I sized up for a more relaxed fit.

$305 on sézane

Madewell Greta Ballet Flat

These affordable Mary Jane ballet flats were a surprise standout last spring. The leather is soft and supple, and they are comfortable right out of the box. I personally own the black and chocolate raisin colors, but there are so many options available to choose from now. These flats fit true to size.

$98 on madewell

Sézane Barry Cardigan

One of Sézane’s signature pieces, the Barry Cardigan is the epitome of classic Parisian chic. It looks trés sexy tucked into a great pair of jeans. I recommend sizing down in this style. Note that if you are sensitive to wool, this cardigan does feel a bit scratchy.

$120 on sézane

Everlane Oversized Blazer

A camel blazer is another popular item for your fall capsule wardrobe. This one is really good quality with a relaxed fit. I often pair this blazer with a simple white tee and sneakers for a casual chic everyday look. It is made of a cotton and lyocell blend. I recommend taking your true size.

Everlane Cotton
Long Trench

I actually purchased this green trench last spring, and it was a standout favorite for mild weather days. This trench has button closures and a tie belt along with a classic storm flap on the back. It is very oversized so I recommend taking a size down especially if you are petite.

$298 on everlane

Quince Washable Silk Blouse

If you’re looking to build a capsule wardrobe on a budget, I highly recommend checking out the brand, Quince, which carries modern basics at affordable prices. This silk blouse is one of my favorites from the brand. It’s a beautiful blouse to wear to the office or even with jeans and heels for date night. I also own this version in the forest green color.

$70 on quince

Sézane Colette Mariniére

If French girl style is your goal then you must own at least one striped top like this. This shirt style originated in the 19th century with the classic blue and white version worn by the French navy and is currently very popular among Parisians. This mariniére top by Sézane is made with a heavyweight cotton and has a slightly relaxed fit. It comes in several color options, but I’m partial to this camel and ecru version.

$100 on sézane

Everlane Glove Boot

These ankle boots from Everlane were one of my most worn boots last fall. The skinny shaft makes them easy to pair with different styles of jeans since the shaft tucks nicely under the hem of the your pants without getting bunched up. I also find this block heel style much more comfortable, and I often wore these walking around our neighborhood without any issues.

$150 on everlane

Sézane Will Jacket

This chore jacket adds a touch of cool to my more feminine outfits. It is a popular Sézane style that comes in several fabric and color options with new ones released often. I own this jacket in a light denim wash as well as cream colored wool version that was released last fall. I recommend taking your usual size.

$145 on sézane

Sézane Axelle Ankle Boots

These ankle boots have a timeless shape with an elongated square toe box and two inch block heel. The slim shaft tucks nicely under trousers and straight leg jeans. I own these in the polished camel which makes a statement without being too trendy. I’m eyeing these in the suede taupe version for my fall wardrobe this year.

$255 on sézane

Everlane Cashmere Boxy
Crewneck Sweater

If you’re looking for quality sweaters that don’t pill, you must check out Everlane. This cashmere sweater has a boxy, modern silhouette and isn’t itchy in the slightest. This sweater is pricey, but it will last you for years. I recommend staying true to size for a relaxed fit.

$198 on everlane

Sézane Betty Cardigan

One of my absolute favorite Sézane pieces, the Betty cardigan, is a more modern style of the lady jackets that have been very trendy in the past year. You can wear it buttoned or unbuttoned which adds to it’s versatility. I want one in every color! I took my true size, XS.

$170 on sézane

Sézane Le Crop Jeans

Another pair of straight leg jeans that I’m often grabbing are these from Sézane. They have a high waist, straight leg, and cropped length. I own them in this denim blue wash and a chocolate brown wash that is no longer available although a similar option is currently almost fully stocked. I definitely recommend sizing up in all Sézane bottoms, but most definitely in these because they have very little stretch.

$125 on sézane

Sézane Daisy Jumper

This sweater (pictured in the photo above) is a beautiful and well made cream and navy striped sweater. The material is on the thicker side, and it fits quite boxy. It is so chic and timeless! Made from 100% organic cotton, this is another good option for those who are sensitive to wool. I took my true size.

Frēda Salvador Jada
Ballet Flats

Truth be told, I’ve been wearing these ballet flats all summer as well. I own them in this nude color shown here as well as the black. They are beautifully made and comfortable right out of the box. I adore the woven design which adds texture and interest to my more simple outfits. Use code STITCHANDSALT15 for 15% off your purchase.

$350 on frēda salvador

Sézane Gaspard Cardigan

I often recommend this cardigan for those looking to make their first Sézane purchase. It is French girl chic at it’s finest. My favorite feature is the mother of pearl buttons which can be worn in the front or back. I recommend sizing down one as I find this cardigan runs slightly large. Also note that it is a wool blend which is a bit scratchy to the skin.

$120 on sézane

Everlane Must-Have
Oxford Shirt

I’ve owned this oxford shirt for a few years, and it’s held up wonderfully. The French blue color really pops with tan trousers, but it looks just as good with jeans, too. You have the option to wear this button down tucked or untucked. It fits true to size for a relaxed fit.

$88 on everlane

Sézane Christie Jacket

My favorite blazer, the Sézane Christie Jacket is an investment piece for your wardrobe that you’ll be wearing for years. I own this beautiful ecru color as well as a terracotta color that is no longer available. The length is modest and doesn’t run too long for my petite frame. It is double breasted with tortoiseshell buttons. This blazer runs small in my opinion; I recommend sizing up. I own this in the 2 and 4, and I prefer the fit of the 4.

$225 on sézane

Sézane Niels Ankle Boots

These lace up Chelsea boots are a perfect ‘city’ boot. They have just a slight platform, gold hardware, and come with two sets of laces. I love the look of these with a feminine blouse or nice blazer. Sézane footwear runs large in my opinion, but I prefer some room for socks in my boots so I would stay true to size.

$275 on sézane

Everlane Ribbed Long
Sleeve Scoop Neck Tee

I own this tee in white and black. I often wore it layered under jackets and blazers in the fall and winter. The quality is good, but the white is just a bit see through. It fits true to size for a slim fit.

$50 on everlane

Sézane Chlo Shirt

This stunning blouse from Sézane has a beautiful embroidered neckline that is feminine and chic. Pair it with trousers for work or jeans and heels for date night. It is part of Sézane’s main collection and comes in several colors and fabrics. I own the ecru which is made from silk. I recommend staying true to size or taking your larger size if in between sizes.

$130 on sézane

Quince Cotton Cashmere Ribbed Long Sleeve Sweater

This fitted sweater from Quince is a dupe of a more expensive top from Dissh. In my opinion, it’s also more wearable as well since the sleeves are less exaggerated. I own the olive and heather oatmeal colors. It runs small; size up if you’re large chested.
