Workwear Capsule Wardrobe For Fall

I’ve heard from many people that say they need outfit ideas to wear to the office so today I’m sharing a workwear capsule wardrobe for fall. Building a capsule wardrobe for your workwear will help to streamline your mornings and make putting together your outfit for the day easy and stress-free.

In this post, I included a list of each item in this workwear capsule wardrobe and 28 outfit ideas.

Workwear Capsule Wardrobe: The Pieces

For this workwear capsule wardrobe for fall, I chose 14 pieces – 5 tops, 3 outerwear pieces, 3 bottoms, and 3 pairs of shoes. All of these pieces are classic wardrobe staples that are super versatile so they can be mixed and matched easily to create many different outfits.

The Tops

Sweater: A classic cashmere crewneck sweater is very versatile for the office wardrobe. It can be worn on its own or layered under a blazer. Obviously cashmere is more expensive, but a simple cotton crewneck will also work.

Striped Top: Stripes are my favorite print, and I wear them year round. It must be the Francophile in me! This striped top is classic and elegant with its boatneck cut and button detail on the shoulder. For winter, I would switch this out for a striped sweater.

Turtleneck: This tissue turtleneck is a lighter weight which makes it nice for early fall weather. Later on in the season, you can layer it under a blazer or trench coat.

White Button Down: A classic white button down is essential for the office and probably most casual wardrobes as well. This one has a more modern looser fit than your button downs of past years.

Blue Button Down: A second button down in this light blue color gives you another option. This color is classic and can also be worn with jeans and sneakers for casual Friday.

The Outerwear

Plaid Blazer: This plaid blazer in these rich brown tones is perfect for fall. It’s probably my favorite piece in this capsule. It’s perfect for layering over a button down, sweater, or turtleneck.

Black Cardigan: This black cardigan is a nice casual alternative to the blazer. It can be worn with trousers or jeans for the office.

Trench Coat: This is a classic piece for cooler weather and so chic layered over any outfit. When buying a trench coat, look for a longer one that hits your calves for a more modern look.

The Bottoms

Dark Wash Denim: Dark wash denim definitely looks more polished and professional than light wash denim. A classic straight leg is always in style.

Black Trousers and Tan Trousers: A classic workwear staple, trousers are a must-have for the office environment. Lucky for us, trousers are very trendy right now so there are a ton of options available. Black and tan trousers are two classic color choices. I would have your trousers hemmed so they work with both flats and heels. For those on a tighter budget, H&M always has good affordable trouser options.

The Shoes

White Sneakers: From what I’ve seen, offices have become much more casual, and many people are working hybrid schedules making sneakers a perfectly acceptable choice for workwear. A clean and slim fitting white fashion sneaker will keep your outfit looking more polished and put together.

Loafers: I don’t work in an office, but I still own a few pairs of loafers. I like that they can be dressed up or worn more casually with jeans. Chunky styles are trendy right now, but if your budget is tight, go with a classic loafer that will be in style forever.

Ankle Boots (similar option): A heeled ankle boot with a mid to tall skinny shaft is going to be very versatile for the office. Skip those booties that are cut low on the ankle or have a wide shaft. Those don’t pair well with trousers or straight leg bottoms.
