I bought my first pair of Levi’s denim about five years ago and have been a fan ever since. I always recommend Levi’s because not only are they well made, but they are also relatively affordable. In this post, I’m going over my three favorite Levi’s denim styles and how they differ. I’ll also give you fit and sizing recommendations for each one.
My Three Favorite Levi’s Denim Styles
Levi’s Original & Cropped 501s

The first style I’m breaking down is the Levi’s 501 Jeans. These are a classic slim fit straight leg denim and have a fairly high rise at just under 11 inches. They come in a regular and cropped style based on your height and how you want the jeans to fit. For reference, I’m 5’3″, and I’m wearing the cropped style in the 26 inch inseam. They are pretty cropped – I wouldn’t want them any shorter than this. Consider getting the 28 inch inseam or the Original 501s which have a 30 or 32 inch inseam if you’re taller. I would stay true to size or take your larger size in this style. In general, I find Levi’s to run a smidge small. Definitely size up if you prefer looser denim. If you have a bigger waist to hip ratio (meaning a smaller waist and a wider hip and thigh area), go with the Levi’s 501 Curve Jeans. If you curious, I’m wearing the After Dark wash here.
How To Style: Since these have a slimmer fit, I prefer to wear them with looser tops to balance the proportions. I’ll take a baggy on baggy look but I don’t really do slim on slim. These are 100% cotton but have more of a relaxed fit so I often reach for them on days I want to be more comfortable. I wear them a lot for school drop with sneakers for an easy mom look.

Levi’s 501 90’s Jeans

The Levi’s 501 90s Jeans are my new favorite pair of Levi’s. I recently purchased these to replace another pair of white jeans that had a stubborn stain. The 90’s Jeans have a mid rise of 10 and 1/2 inches which is usually pretty low for me since I typically prefer a high rise, but I actually really like where it lands. They also have a much more relaxed fit through the hips and thighs. Although they are 100% cotton no stretch denim, they are surprisingly comfortable! I’m wearing the 90’s Ankle Jeans which have a 27 inch inseam and work well for petites. If you’re taller than 5’3″ or have proportionally longer legs, go with the 90’s Original which you can get in a 30 inch or 32 inch inseam. I recommend staying true to size or taking your larger size in these as well.
How To Style: These are kind of the Goldilocks of denim since you can pretty much style them with anything. Shoes are typically the most challenging aspect of a look, but these jeans really go with any type of footwear from sandals to boots.

Levi’s Ribcage Jeans

The Levi’s Ribcage Jeans were the first pair of Levi’s I purchased a few years ago. This was back when high rise was the only rise! These have an extremely high rise at 12 and 1/8 inches. If you’re short waisted, these are not the jeans for you – they may hit your boobs, ha! On the opposite spectrum, if you have short legs and want to make them look longer, this rise is going to be great for you. These have a slightly wider leg than the other jeans I’ve mentioned above, and the booty on these is spectacular – very cheeky. You also have tons of inseam options. These are the Ribcage Ankle Jeans with the 27 inch inseam. They also come in 29 inch and 31 inch inseams, and you can get the Full Length style which has a 32 inch and 34 inch inseam option. I would definitely size up in these (honestly, my larger size is still a little tight!) These are the jeans you wear if you want to look snatched; these are not the jeans you wear if you want to be comfortable and sit for long periods. This is the Jazz Pop wash which feels like a perfect vintage inspired medium wash.
How To Style: I feel these are also pretty easy to style lots of ways. You can wear them with oversized button downs, relaxed fit sweaters, or blazers. This straight leg also goes with essentially all my footwear, too.
