As a work-from-home mom who rarely has the opportunity to dress up, I use date night as an excuse to wear all my fancy pieces. That top that feels a little too dressy for daytime? Date night! Those jeans that only work with heels? Date night! That bag that’s a little too small to keep all the things you might need for a day with the kids? Date night! Although I do like wearing my special pieces, I don’t necessarily stray too much from my style happy place. My typical fall date night uniform is a nice top (a ‘going out top’ if you will), long line jeans, heeled boots (especially when it’s cold!), and a little bag.
I recently did a collaboration with Neiman Marcus to feature some of their pieces, and I wanted to share this look plus some more items that would be perfect for a fall date night outfit. And just a little note here that if you aren’t prioritizing date nights as a mom, please start! After years of putting it off, Danny and I finally made the decision to find and schedule babysitters for regular date nights, and it has been amazing for our mental sanity as parents.

Neiman Marcus is a brand I envision Rachel Green shopping at. Anyone else find themselves very inspired by Rachel Green’s fashion? The retailer carries more investment mid-range designer to high-end designer styles if you’ve never shopped there before. These are items you might have to budget for but that will stay in your closet for a long, long time, possibly passing on to your kids as vintage! The goal for my personal wardrobe is to have a mix of investment and budget-friendly pieces to mix and match. The high-low mix is a lesser known style hack that makes a really cool outfit.
For this post, I’m breaking down my date night uniform plus a few finds from Neiman Marcus in each category. My favorite brands to shop for there are Staud, Favorite Daughter, Frame, A.L.C., Rag & Bone, Theory, SIMKHAI, Ralph Lauren, Rails, and Veronica Beard.
Fall Date Night Tops

A date night top for me is usually something a little sexy, perhaps with a low cut neckline, a cropped fit that shows a wee bit of tummy, or something a little sheer that looks fire with a pair of high waisted jeans. The top I’m wearing above is from the brand A.L.C. The magic is in the styling with it’s ruched sleeves and billowy cut. This one would actually work for day-time as well with a pair of trousers for work.

Fall Date Night Bottoms

When it comes to bottoms for date night, my go-to is always a pair of long line high waisted jeans that just grazes the ground when I’m wearing heels. This style makes your legs look miles long and has an almost 70s style to them (my favorite style decade!) The pair I’m wearing here is from Frame, and they are basically perfection. Coming from someone who collects jeans like my son collects Pokémon cards, that is really saying something. I’ve been super impressed with the fit of Frame denim. This pair has patch pockets in the front, is fitted through the hips and thighs, and slightly flares at the leg. I recommend staying true to size or taking your larger size if you’re in between sizes. Below I’m linking some more styles that would be perfect for date night.

Fall Date Night Shoes

When it comes to shoes for date night, I will always choose a heel. What can I say, I like being slightly taller for a few hours! For the colder months, especially now that we live in Chicago, I’m going with a heeled boot over a pump. As I’ve gotten older, I’m less tolerant of cold feet, ha! The pair I’m wearing here is from Rag & Bone, and, as far as boots go, they check all my boxes. Square toe? Check. Reasonable block heel? Check. Quality leather? Check. Comfortable enough for walking? Check. I’ll definitely be wearing these outside of date night as well.

Fall Date Night Bags

One of the style tips you’ll hear me repeat often is to invest in bags and shoes. Bags are an accessory that actually make a big impact on your look. Plus, bag trends are typically slow to cycle, and they really don’t go out out of style ever. This one I’m wearing in these photos is from Staud and has been on my wishlist for a long time. She’s a beautiful chocolate brown suede with a chunky buckle and shoulder strap. Don’t be surprised if you see me wearing this daily, although she’s perfect for date night. I’m linking some more little bag options below (but this one’s my favorite!)
