It may be August, but I’ve got fall on the brain. It’s my favorite season to dress for, and I get particularly excited to plan out my fall wardrobe. I’ve been watching the trends that are going to be popular this coming season – some that feel like me and others I’m going to pass on for now (lace, zebra print, maximalism, and the color purple to name a few…) For this post, I’m sharing the five trends I’m shopping for fall plus a few purchases I’ve made so far. In my next post, I’ll be rounding up all my new fall finds with pictures so get ready. I’ve very picky about which trends I choose to invest in so you’ll see most of these are actually pretty timeless and seem to come around every fall although some years they are bigger than others. I hope this post gives you some ideas for pieces to add to your fall wardrobe. Happy shopping!
Fall Trends I’m Shopping
Shades Of Red

While cherry red may have been the it color for summer, deeper, spicier reds are trending for fall along with burgundy which has been here for the last few seasons (and is really a timeless fall color anyway.) As you know, I’m not into bright colors, but these richer more saturated tones I like. I actually just purchased those red flats in the top right corner and can confirm they are as soft as butter. They are going to add a punch of color to my otherwise neutral fall outfits. I’ll be pairing them with greens, browns, creams, and denim for fall.

Leather & Suede

Suede and leather for fall? Groundbreaking, right? While these materials have always been popular for fall, they are HUGE this season and all of my favorite brands have so much of these in their fall drops. A little off shoot of this trend is fringe which is reading more 70s than cowboy to me, and I have to say, I’m very into it. That Sézane suede jacket with the fringe on the front and sleeves is calling my name. As far as purchases go so far though, the suede green bag in the bottom left is now sitting in my closet, and she’s a beauty.

Canvas Jackets

We saw barn jackets hit the scene in a BIG way last fall, and they are very much back again although you’ll find them under many different names from canvas jacket to work jacket to waxed jacket. I think the key here is that the collar is a different material than the rest of the jacket usually in corduroy. The two above from Mango (second and fourth in the picture above) are on their way to me right now (I know, I couldn’t resist!) I particularly love the way these look when paired with more dressier items like a maxi or midi skirt and trousers, but I’ll also be wearing them casually with jeans and flats. For an affordable option, check out this green one from Old Navy.

Shades Of Brown

I think this color trend is never going away, and I’m totally okay with it. This is the color I’ve probably added to my closet the most in the last couple years. Those suede loafers and brown sweater are closet staples for me, and I just purchased that chocolate brown button down from Alex Mill (the quality and fit are amazing.) I also highly recommend the wool coat in the top left from Mango which I own in tan and black but am coveting in this beautiful warm brown color. It’s definitely a lighter weight so good for warmer climates or moderate fall temperatures.

Striped Polo

And lastly for trends I’m shopping this year is this striped polo shirt specifically in this rugby style with wide stripes. I have to say, this trend grew on me after seeing it become popular a few seasons back. It just fits my casual life so well, and there are so many styling possibilities (jeans, skirts, trousers!) I purchased the beige and white striped option from Everlane shown second above, and I can’t wait to wear it.
